On sale from today, the front cover and comic strip has been specially drawn by Beano artist, Nigel Parkinson. It sees the celebrities assist the Beanotown kids in stopping Mayor Brown from carving his own face into Mount Beano for the birthday celebrations. Established in 1938, Beano is Britain’s longest running children’s comic and over 80 years later - it hasn't lost any of its appeal for kids today. The 85th Anniversary Issue of Beano is available in selected supermarkets and newsagents, from Wednesday, July 26. Stormzy, Harry Styles and David Attenborough are the stars of Beano’s 85 th anniversary edition. The special commemorative issue also features King Charles and Queen Camilla, alongside celebrities from the world of music, cinema, TV and sport. Vanessa Andreis, Franchise Planning and Partnerships director, added: “2023 is going to be Beano’s biggest year yet. Kids and their families won’t be able to miss our celebrations as we commemorate both the iconic comic and our incredible characters which are so loved.”

Since being launched in 1938, The Beano has gone on to sell over 4,100 issues, including over 70,000 comic strips and 700 characters, from Dennis the Menace to Roger the Dodger and Minnie the Minx. The special year will be commemorated by the brand across the year with a special comic issue, a national press and media campaign, schools’ activity and special appearances from the comic’s celebrity fans.
