About this deal

The book opens in an old school that has seen its last class for it's about to be closed down, and the children all coming together on different days to try and solve the mysteries of the town. Not to mention the horrors, of course. Summer of Night was one of the most incredible books I have ever read and mind you it's not because I'd rather read a book on a Friday night than party, much to my boyfriends dismay as I so often do.

Es un estilo de historia que vemos de la mano del maestro Stephen King pero Dan Simmons sí que consiguió atraparme con esta. The story is a sort of coming-of-age tale, although instead of focused on one as is typical, it centers around a group of children growing up together in a small town in the 60's. The author brings alive the excitement of that first summer day when school ends and only months ahead await the youth who are already itching to explore idyllic summer days and nights free of responsibility. Time moved slowly at Old Central, if at all. Footsteps echoed along corridors and up stairwells, but the sound seemed muted and out of synch with any motion amidst the shadows. That is about all I can on a taste without giving away spoilers so you will just need to read the book if you want to know what happens! There may be some in-jokes or nods in Summer of Night. Duane may be a particular version of the detective in Carrion Comfort. I believe that the character Harland is a playful nod to Harlan Ellison, given their similar attitudes and, well, vernacular. An outstandingly eerie horror story about a group of Midwestern boys stalked by an ancient evil.” — Publishers Weekly For those of us to whom good writing is everything, the name Dan Simmons bears great weight.” — Harlan Ellison

The gang was Dale, Mike, Duane, Harlen, Kevin, Lawrence (little brother to Dale) and sometimes Cordie. I’m not saying it’s better than Pennywise the Dancing Clown–it decidedly is not–but it is a great way to set the book apart from its most ready comparison, and the horror it offers should be appreciated for its own merits. One can only wonder what Simmons will do next, now that he's shown us he can do everything the best writers in horror and science fiction can do." -"Philadelphia"" Inquirer" No son los ingredientes sino cómo usarlos para atrapar al lector, interesarle y atraparle ya sea por la trama, personajes o ambientación.

Summer of Night is one of those books where the story is a delight to read but the review is kind of hard to do. It's also my first novel from Dan Simmons. After finishing this book, I definitely want to read by the author. School’s out. The days are long and hot. There is a stirring in the air. It’s summer, and for six kids on the brink of adolescence a major change is about to happen. Yes, it’s the inevitable just around the corner; but there’s more. Supernaturally more; scarily more. In Summer of Night, Dan Simmons examines a petrifying puberty. Stephen King went there in It, and certainly Summer of Night bears similarities to that work. Simmons, however, embraces the theme and its permutations in his own strong and unique voice. He conveys the sensations of the season and the qualities, qualms, and questions inherent in being eleven years old. At once endearing and terrifying, the novel shakes up youthful memories and places them in an ambience of evil. One can only wonder what Simmons will do next, now that he's shown us he can do everything the best writers in horror and science fiction can do. "Philadelphia Inquirer" If you're a horror fan who enjoyed the childhood trials in Stephen King's IT, or the bonding and tragedy in Robert McCammon's Boy's Life, you'll almost certainly love Summer of Night. There's something especially effective about drama-horror focusing on adolescence and coming of age in the midst of trials and struggles, calling upon the power of friendship to draw strength to defeat foes so much larger than individual self. Artifact of Doom: The Borgia Bell carries with it a great and terrible curse, which, once triggered, will bring about an apocalyptic event in sixty years, six months, and six days.
