About this deal

Somewhat episodic, with plain, unadorned language, this memoir is nonetheless rather moving, as Rao Pingru relates many incidents from his long life, and from that of his wife Mao Meitang, a woman he'd known since his childhood. Pingru and Meitang live through many turbulent events in China's past, including the Japanese invasion and the cultural revolution. However, and just a little under the 50% mark, “two frightened kids in total denial” — as our queen Rona so accurately put it — happened. New characters were introduced. New plot lines followed. Aaaannd things went downhill for me. I don’t think anything could’ve prepared me for the disappointment that this book turned out to be. It started off strong, and the premise had me intrigued. Even though the setting of the story happened too fast and straight forward for me, I was enjoying getting to know Otty and Joe, as well as discovering the amazing world of showrunners and writing teams.

OUR STORY is quite a special artifact in itself, beautifully bound with a simple and elegant cover design. The story and art inside continues this careful and simplistic form.I loved that we get inside our male lead Joe’s head and heart in Our Story. Not only does it build the conflict (because we know what Otty and Joe are feeling when they don’t) but it makes it easy to relate to him and get that all important emotional connection. I saw Otty as much stronger and grounded than he was (not necessarily a good thing) – for me she was the practical one and tried to get on with everything whilst he was the creative/dreamer. Both of them start out with insecurities and they worry about pleasing others. I despaired they would ever get together. The ebb and flow is at the right pace and kept me engaged. Were the streets of London possibly any safer in that era if you were mugged and went to the Krays instead of the police?

Az Our Story kemény kötésű könyv, A5-ös lapok alkotják. Az oldalak száma 20 oldaltól 126 oldalig terjedhet. Amennyiben 20 oldalnál rövidebb könyvet készítesz, a hiányzó oldalakat üres lapokkal egészítjük ki. 64 oldalig minden lapra egy oldal kerül, 65 oldaltól pedig minden lap 2 oldalas lesz. Thanks to the persuasive power of its humane and humorous author, Our Story is as hard to resist as the great, rich, rambling serial narratives of the oral storytellers who travelled from one Chinese village to another Hilary Spurling, The Spectator This work of non fiction collects two crime brothers' reflections of who they are, who they WERE, where they are now and where they may be remaining for the rest of their lives. What was also fascinating is they talked about the Richardson brothers and their gang. I've read Eddie's account, and it does not coincide in the slightest bit. Who is right? Guess we'll never know. Told in both the perspectives of Joe and Otty I found myself falling in love with these characters. Joe and Otty were perfect and relatable. Both struggling with the thought of losing everything these two characters are flawed, realistic and incredibly human and I found myself seeing parts of myself in both of them. I loved learning about Otty and her struggles of finally embracing what she wanted out of life and taking the leap of becoming a full time writer even if everyone around her feels like she’s making the wrong decision.

A graphic memoir like no other: the true story of a marriage in China that spanned the twentieth century, told in vibrant, original paintings and prose. This is not a great writing, but the sincerity and the illustrations are real. It touched me deeply. I loved the simplicity of the book and the honesty with which he tells his story. My first clear memories are of the ceremony that marked the formal start of my schooling: the Four Treasures of Study, the brand-new brush, ink, paper, and inkstone. Uncle Huang, whose calligraphy was beautiful, grasped my hand and together we traced the first lesson.

Ron and Reg Our Story allows the reader to feel part of an interview that is taking place between the author and the interviewees. It is a style of writing that works very well and presents the coherent facts in an easy to understand and intelligent manner. It gives a good insight into gangland in 60’s London and asks important questions about our judicial system. Ronnie is even more matter of fact about his acts of violence and asks for no sympathies, yet comes across as a sensitive yet troubled individual who welcomes the help he gains.

But when Meitang passed away in 2008, Pingru realised that their marriage and all the small moments and memories of a life together, would be lost to history. And so at the age of eighty-eight, in an outpouring of love and grief, Pingru began to paint. Our Story" is the autobiography of Chinese natives Rao Pingru and his wife Mao Meitang as they meet, marry, and grow old together. Every story includes paintings made by Pingru and little vignettes explaining each painting and going into greater detail into his life - the good and the bad. He fought the Japanese in WWII, saw his home town destroyed, worked in a re-education camp for 20 years, and had six children who would all have interesting lives of their own. The Kray twins were convicted of murder in 1969 and sentenced to a minimum of 30 years They believed that their life sentence was unjust and that after many years in custody they had fulfilled their duty to society and in their own words...”Ron and I killed one man each. Both of the men we killed were violent men, gangsters, One by his own admission, had already killed another man. The other had shot and wounded at least one man and would almost certainly have killed another- given the time and the chance he would have killed me. For that we have spent more than twenty years in captivity, often treated worse than wild animals.” It's a very unique picture into real life and it filled me with joy reading it. Just like real life, it starts and stops and ends abruptly. But that only adds to the charm or this marvelous life.Humane and humorous... Our Story is as hard to resist as the great, rich, rambling serial narratives of the oral storytellers who travelled from one Chinese village to another in the past, drawing entire populations out of their houses to sit on the hillside and listen Spectator
