It's very disappointing that so few local children will get to see The Colour Room at the cinema, but we are grateful to the Mitchell Arts Centre for showing it. Wright seems simultaneously embarrassed by his amateur cult classic, and up for doing some sort of release with a lot of “pretty darn silly extras” and “very daft commentaries”.

Coming from a working class family in Stoke On Trent, the best Clarice could hope for was a job in one of The Potteries’ factories, despite her obvious talent for design and colour. The script is a beautifully written contemporary take on the 20th century, and I feel proud to be working with such a strong female team, both in front and behind the camera. Uncle Remus isn’t a slave, but he is an Uncle Tom, and as of 2010, Disney’s line (via CEO Bob Iger) was that the film is “antiquated” and “fairly offensive”.Phoebe says: "The first reason I was excited about The Colour Room was going back to my northern roots and following a real working class story of a northern woman.
