About this deal

Range rulers and dice – These essential accessories cover you for movement, shooting, close combat and more.

I was able to repair it easily enough but it did make me question whether these are the best models for a beginner to be having a go at. Inside this jam-packed box, you’ll find the makings of two armies plus rules for gaming with them – ideal for kicking off your hobby, sharing with a friend or gifting to someone you’d like to introduce to your favorite game.

So, if you are looking to introduce someone the wonderfully grim world of Warhammer 40,000, or are get started yourself, you can be sure that whichever starter set you pick up you will be sure to get your moneys worth. You can also support us on Patreon and get ad-free access to the site, plus a ton of minis that helps support some of the best creators out there!

I reckon a big part of the value in this set are the two HQ’s, which are always on the pricy side when starting an army. They go together very easily and there are levels of dynamism and motion that leave almost all of the previous Primaris Space Marine kits in the dust. One thing that we both found a bit of a pain is that there are no wound tokens or trackers included in the set.

Primaris Captain: A superlative commander and highly skilled warrior, a Primaris Captain is the commander of an entire company of his battle-brothers. This set also replaces the Lieutenant and Royal Warden with a Space Marine Captain and Necron Overlord, giving both sides a little bit more hitting power. When the only unit that doesn’t have multiple wounds in the set is the Necron Warriors this does feel like a bit of an oversight. In today’s article, we’re lifting the lids to take a look at the contents of each set in greater detail.

Which also means it’s a good idea to have some basic terrain included in the set so that you have everything you need to play. But the idea of this set is to give someone everything they need to get starter with the 40k hobby, which includes giving them a board to play on. There’s also a shallow narrative threading these Missions together, serving as a very subtle way of giving new players a taste of campaign gaming.Skorpekh Destroyers: Swift and deadly hunters, Skorpekh Destroyers chase down their prey to carve them apart with their fearsome reaping blades. If you like what we’re doing here you could really help encourage more content with a share on any social media platform. The missions continue on in this fashion, introducing new rules by degrees so that new players are not mired in new information (which was a problem I very much had learning the game many years ago). Canoptek Plasmacyte: A cruel and calculating manipulator of tainted energy, the Plasmacyte is capable of sending its Destroyer kin into a killing frenzy.
