There's an excellent variety in setting. One mission takes place in a Parisian mansion, another in a Colorado farm taken over by a militia. Skin-headed protagonist Agent 47 travels to an idyllic Italian seaside town in one instance, before heading to a high-tech spa retreat on the mountain range of Hokkaido. After Hitman's initial content drop arrived in March 2016, players were promised five subsequent episodes every month leading into the latter half of the year. These elements position the players on a "rail" that will guide them to their target; this added additional challenges to the game's simulation because opportunities will disrupt the target's usual loop and players can complicate the loop by abandoning an ongoing opportunity in favour of another rail.
