About this deal

Do you have any advice on how to convert a 12v source (which may itself not be super steady, I have no idea) into a steady 5v? Hence the voltage across the load will always greater than that of input source when the switch is OFF. LTspice® is a powerful, fast and free simulation software, schematic capture and waveform viewer with enhancements and models for improving the simulation of analog circuits.

Are you going to use this only when the engine is running or also from battery when the engine is idle? The two on the left are input, the two on the right output with the negative terminals next to each other for safety. It has adjustable voltage, current and a display that can show input/output voltage and output current. However, you might need to rely on community feedback as this sounds outside the scope of our support team.

A wide range of IC’s and automation controller devices require 5 V DC supply for their operation, in the absence of 5 volt supply we might be needed to derive it from the existing power supply then comes these linear converter for help. First I measured the current used by my device, on the output side of the converter, which was around 50mA. Those numbers don’t sound that good… Perhaps the module is not really able to drive 5V with an 6V input. At first sight, it appears to be different from Circuit 1 here, since it contains an extra constant resistor in parallel to the [potentially changing] load.

Small systems today often incorporate a mix of peripheral sensors or actuators which operate on different logic levels. This means the component was not marked and the value was estimated based on recommendations in the datasheet. I ask because sometimes the device I'm connecting to the HV side has 5v signals, and sometimes it has 3. If you are just going to bridge this pad to “Vin+”, no worries too, this module’s “no load current” is just 0. I think you should connect a power supply at the input and a dummy load at the output and try different input voltages and currents and see if this has effect on the input.

If the cycling of the switch is quite fast then the inductor will not discharge fully in between the charging states. Ripple measured with a Tektronix oscilloscope, maybe it is also possible to measure it with a multimeter set to AC Volts. in an LM2596-based adjustable DC-DC converter, it was “forgotten” to install a capacitor between the output and sense-input (thereby multiplying the output ripple with a factor related to the difference between output voltage and sense-voltage of 1. We always do not have a 5V battery readily available, and sometimes we need higher voltage and a lower voltage at the same time to drive different parts of the same circuit. Second, most modules are capable of input voltages up to about 25 volts, but few can do 40 volts and higher. It is even more inefficient than circuits 1 and 2, because the extra electronics take additional current.
