Section 2 is based on the knowledge typically included in non-specialist school Science and Mathematics courses. It tests your ability to apply this knowledge – possibly in unfamiliar contexts. Reading the Section 3 marking criteria gives you a general idea of how you’re being graded. You should be getting A for “quality of English”, although 5 for “quality of content” is much harder to attain. Unfortunately due to the tight time frames for processing applications, it is not possible to avoid this but we hope that by giving considerable notice of test dates, schools will be able to make plans for their students to sit tests either at their school or at an alternative test centre and candidates will make sure they are available to take the necessary test(s).

Bmat results can be accessed via the Metritest system from 25 November 2022. Results from the October Bmat are sent to any Bmat institution to which you have applied. How much does it cost to take the Bmat? Fee They are used to decide which candidates to invite to interview and sometimes who gets the final offer. Since most applicants have exceptional academic achievements, universities rely on this additional testing.Find a test centre. Ask your school’s Exams Officer if the school is already registered as a BMAT test centre. If your school isn’t a BMAT test centre, and doesn’t want to/can’t register to become one, you’ll need to find a test centre from the BMAT’s network of test centres. Taking the BMAT also allows you to apply to medical programmes at prestigious universities such as Oxford, Cambridge and University College London.

The BioMedical Admissions Test (Bmat) is a two-hour pen-and-paper test consisting of three sections: It tests your ability to apply scientific and mathematical knowledge, as well as problem solving, critical thinking and written communication skills that are essential to university-level study. You can still use Section 1 past papers to practise, but note that Section 1 no longer contains Data Analysis and Inference questions, in which a longer text is followed by a set of related questions.
BMAT test specification: the specification summarises what each section of BMAT tests and briefly outlines the scientific and mathematical knowledge that Section 2 questions can draw upon. Most applicants to Oxford University have great personal statements, excellent references, and are also predicted top grades. It can therefore be difficult for us to choose between so many well-qualified candidates, especially as applicants come from all over the world and take different qualifications. Each question, in Sections 1 and 2, is worth one mark. Total raw marks for each section are converted to the Bmat scale, which runs from 1 (low) to 9 (high). Scores are reported to one decimal place. Typical Bmat candidates will score around 5.0, which equates to approximately half marks. The best candidates will score around 6.0, and a few exceptional candidates will score higher than 7.0.
