About this deal

Jeremy Briggs ponders DC Thomson’s secretive nature about its creators down the years, and explores the secrets of its science fiction title Starblazer , whose creators included a young Grant Morrison and artist Ian Kennedy… As you can see, there are no captions or movie titles on any of these and part of the fun is the surprise when you see an image and realise it’s one of your favourite films. There were a couple here and there throughout the three issues that took me a few seconds to work out which film they were simply because I wasn’t that familiar with the original promotional image, but needless to say you should know them all, or at least the vast majority. Heritage Comics presents Starblazer, in print for the first time since the 1990s, now in graphic novel format. Comico Comic Book Series 2". StarBlazers.com. This series of issues, set in the fantasy kingdom of Anglerre, follows the royal family and their conflict against various aggressors. The first appearance of Prince Veyne, in issue 200, was followed by a later issue which was a prequel showing Veyne's father, King Iagon. King Iagon had been vaguely referred to in #200, both by saying that Veyne had just ascended to the throne on the death of his father, and a ship named the 'Royal Iagon'. Much of the storyline of the Royal House of Anglerre is entwined with the god Vishena and the Demon Sword, Cerastes, who will make its user invincible, but will also kill its wielder after an unspecified period of time. The nature of Anglerre's opponents seems to make heavy use of Demons. A recurring character within this series is that of Myrdan, a seemingly immortal figure of unspecified power. In the issue Demon Sword, Myrdan at one point seems to merge with Vishena, which hints that he could be an avatar of the god.

Seeing the popularity of science fiction movies and television shows in the mid-1970s – and the success their rivals IPC were enjoying with 2000AD and (briefly) Starlord– Thomson reasoned that Commando’s winning format could be adapted to the new trend. Computer Space The history of coin-operated video arcade games began not with a whimper, but with several explosive bangs, rendered in simple… In September 1978 I wrote a 750 word synopsis called “ The Basilisk: Face of Fear”and had it accepted. The plot was loosely based on Perseus and the Gorgon’s Head, although I found out later that the Editors hadn’t initially realised the connection. The script was written the following month, the cheque followed shortly and it was published in May 1979 as “ The Domes of Death”( StarblazerIssue2). In his time, he has worked for IPC, Marvel UK, Marvel US, BBC Worldwide, Panini, Egmont, Tundra, Fleetway and Titan Comics. His work has appeared in The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Sun and Private Eye as well as Whizzer & Chips, Gas, Brain Damage, UT, Moose Kids, Casper, and 1980’s cult comics, Toxic! and OiNK.
