About this deal

The added complication of integrated grinder machines as I mentioned earlier, is that you have the potential grinder issues and espresso machine issues in one unit, and the chances of suffering an issue with either your grinder or the espresso machine part of the unit within 3-5 years I'd say is fairly high.

You'll find you can get a full 250g bag into the hopper, but this doesn't mean you should. The reason I say this, is that beans go stale sitting in bean hoppers. Included with the Barista Express is a 54 millimeter stainless steel portafilter with commercial style spouts and a plastic handle. This machine also ships with single, double, pressurized single and pressurized double portafilter baskets. How important is tamper size?It is very easy to assume that new always means better, and in some ways, I think this is the case with the ThermoJet, but in some ways, possibly not. Tamper sizes are usually standardized to a whole number. For that reason, you’ll need to round up your final number to the lower approximation. For the most part, a smaller portafilter size will usually mean a lower-priced espresso machine, although it’s not necessarily the case always. Even if you opt for a deeper by smaller portafilter, you’ll be limited by the size of the machine itself. Why It’s Important to Figure Out Your Portafilter Size

Room for upgrades: The Sage Barista Express is compatible with various accessories and upgrades, such as bottomless portafilters, precision shower screens, and different filter baskets. As your skills develop and your understanding of espresso deepens, you can invest in these accessories to further improve your brewing experience.

I think that a huge percentage of the mainstream coffee drinkers who fall somewhere within the two extremes I've just described would probably be best suited to the Barista Express if they're looking for the best combination of cup quality and value for money. Many people have expected it to simply because it has an integrated grinder and is often sold in bean to cup coffee machine categories by retailers, but it's no more assisted than any other espresso machine, integrated grinder or not. But the Barista Express was launched in 2013, and there have been various integrated grinder espresso machines launched since then. So, is the Barista Express still worth it, and how does it compare to the Barista Pro, Express Impress, Touch Impress, De'Longhi La Specialista & Breville Barista Max?

Pressurized portafilters (generally) do not need tamping down Brush the edges of the filter basket off so there are no stray coffee grounds to get into the threads of the brew head. I like to smooth the basket down with a light tamp to make sure the grounds are even within the basket. How many grams of coffee go into a 51mm basket? Whether or not any tank-fed machine can actually feature “true” pre-infusion is a matter for debate among much cleverer people than me, (I'm not even a proper Barista I just play one on YouTube) but pre-infusion would usually be done at line pressure from a plumbed in machine before the pump is then engaged, and tank machines don't have line pressure so it always pumps pressure, but, Sage machines are set to in some way mimic line pressure by limiting the pump pressure initially and then ramping up to full pressure. The Breville 54mm portafilter is a must-have for any home barista looking to improve their coffee-making skills Watching the coffee extraction process with a naked portafilter is mesmerizing and will highlight any issues with your tamping and dosing in real-time. Is Breville discontinuing the Barista Express? At the other extreme are people who want as much convenience as possible, and want the machine to handle everything for them. Let me just start out by making sure you're aware that these Breville machines have nothing to with Sage. Yes, they're called “Breville”, but it's not the same Breville. Both models have a built-in grinder, but there are a couple of differences that make the Breville / Sage Barista Express a better choice. De'Longhi La Specialita Arte With this needle tamper, you don’t even have to worry about that. Similar to other coffee tampers from Barista Space, these come with unique height adjusting system. This allows even repeatable shot of espresso every time, resulting in improved quality and barista performance. What does the Breville Barista Express come with? Manual and automatic options: While the machine comes with automated settings for brewing and milk frothing, it also provides the option for manual control. As you gain experience and confidence, you can transition from relying on automated settings to taking full control of the process, honing your skills as a barista. If you're really wanting to develop some home barista skills, the Barista Pro is probably the better machine for you. This is very evident in the fact that most of these brands shout from the rooftops about “15 bars of pressure” as if it's a selling point, clearly missing the point that this is purely the normal max pressure of vibration pumps and that you really wouldn't want a full 15 bars of pressure being delivered into the basket.
