In this series, inflatable-inspired shoes take over the limelight with their soles that resemble floatation devices. Some of the high tops are doused in bubblegum and saturated colors while the others have jelly, ombre soles. One of the shoes even has just a transparent design for those who want to show their new pedicure designs.
although it may seem paradoxical, adidas classic sneaker ‘stan smith’ is the protagonist of this footwearseries. british fashion designer craig green pushed the boundaries in a collaboration with adidasfor his autumn/winter ’22 collection. the shoes come in all sorts of bizarre looks, accompanied by breathing tubes, inflatables, screws, or even DIY mold aesthetics. not to mention, the result takes on a rather futuristic approach, which will definitely catch your attention. The shoes come with a traditional bike pump that couples to the metal Schrader valve. If you can fill your bike tires up with air, you can inflate the Small Foot snowshoe. It took about 90 seconds to inflate each snowshoe. In 1991 Spalding hired Design Continuum Inc. (the same company that worked with Reebok) to help them design an inflatable baseball glove that went by the name Air Flex -interestingly enough Mizuno had a similar glove called the AirFit-. Apparently the glove used the same technology used in Reebok’s shoes and the result was a lawsuit. In 1983 a company by the name of the Aero Shoe corporation advertised a running shoe with adjustable air in the midsole. The company would only last 5 years and the pump looked somewhat like a turkey baster but there was no denying that the company was one of if not thee earliest modern interpreter’s of the original Pneumatic Insole. The inflated shoes have a bit of a spring to them, making each step feel like you’re literally bounding from step to step.

As the designer shares, some of his conceptual shoes have a soft texture and a puffy size while the others appear to resemble mutated creatures through their spikes and jelly-like tentacles. ‘I do not think shoes have to be practical. They can also stand alone as pieces of art,’ he shares. Just by looking at his creations, it might be a sin not to try wearing his shoes.Another series UV-Zhu introduced is the AIR anthology where the designer discloses that he made the shoes by inflating them. He also shares that there is no functional or practical value involved in these designs and that they act as an exploration of forms and abstracts meant to be artistic and ornamental.

Sponges and soft paddings are sandwiched in the middle of the shoes, adding some comfortable support for the feet. In one of the shoe ideas, UV-Zhu replaces the sponge with an inflatable filled with candies and the outsole with cotton buds-looking bristles. The designer destroys, reassembles, and recycles already-made shoes, a dive into his creativity and a personal analysis of how shoe designs can develop. The included bike pump is off-the-shelf ‘meh.’ It works (faster than we thought!), but we’d love to see a dual-action pump that inflates during both the push and pull cycle. The Small Foot weighs about 21 ounces per shoe and is available in size medium and large to fit feet form size U.S. 4-13. What We Loved Reebok however would go on to follow up 1989’s basketball pump with a historic lineup of inflatable shoes across all sport categories over the years to come as well as a memorable ad campaign that put Reebok head to head with Nike.craig green (see more here) has recently unveiled a foretaste of his footwear autumn/winter 2022 campaign, grabbing the public’s eye. bolted-in or inflatable accents combined with vivid colors — resembling flotation devices — mark the latest manifestation in collaboration with adidas. however, one can confirm this collaboration, only by noticing the characteristic dots of adidas that pierced the shoe in three rows from each side, as well as through the brand’s logo stamped on the front of the inflated shoe. Of course with success would come imitators, one of which – L.A. Gear- was sued by Reebok (we’ll get to that later). The seams and underside are protected by a heavy-weight Cordura, buffering the shell from abrasion. Gear who was using similar technology in shoes like their Regulator line. Eventually L.A. Gear settled for 1 Million dollars an a licensing agreement allowing for them to use the pump technology in shoes that “borrowed” design characteristics from just about every major brand of the day.
