It’s much lighter than most, providing a bright contrast along with the protection on offer. That’s because the ‘plasma’ lens used here is designed to reduce the amount of blue light entering the eye, resulting in a much bolder contrast between colours. Polycarbonate lenses are known to be unbreakable. These lenses are lighter in weight and don’t fog up as early as glass lenses. Plastic lenses are not a good choice as they are more prone to scratches. The Snapper IIs wouldn’t look out of place arriving at the office on a commuter bike or in the midst of a sportive, so they’re perfect if you are looking for something with more versatile styling.

The choice of lens colour matters a lot. When buying bike sunglasses, look for the tag that indicates their light transmission and absorption qualities. The best colour to choose for regular use is neutral grey as it doesn’t distort colour.

The lens does tend to fog around the nose bridge when you’re working hard in warmer weather. However, lens clarity is good and the spherical curvature means little in the way of distortion. All offer similar function (although some full frame cycling glasses might have a problem if the upper or lower part of the frame is in your eyeline), so which variety you decide to go for depends on the look that suits you, and the priority you give to weight and of course what fits. First off, it's nice to have a hardshell case that will be useful if you're throwing the sunglasses in a bag and travelling with them. Second, you should hope for a soft microfibre cloth to help keep the lenses clean. You might also find a lens cleaning cloth or even a kit with a spray. Other brands have a soft case that can double as a lens cloth. The frames themselves have large centimetre-square vents on either side, so our tester didn’t get any fogging at all.
