About this deal

There is one more useful feature on this charger. It claims to revive empty, discharged and overcharged batteries. This is by 'pulse charging'. The charger automatically recognises the state of the battery it's connected to and pulse charges if required. This continues until the battery reaches a stage where conventional charging takes over. Registered office: Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough PE2 6EA and H Bauer Publishing, Company number: LP003328; When we changed to our Lunar in 2013, it's power supply can't be switched off, so an Aldi smart charger is used occasionally during the winter months, taking the battery indoors - the fact that it goes into conditioning mode automatically indicates that 1) it has one and 2) caravan onboard power supplies DO allow sulphation to occur, thus shortening battery lives.

as for a battery lasting 3 years. .. I'd be very disappointed to only get 3 years from a battery. never had one last such a short time I was a very early fan of the smart chargers, using a Gunson transformer-type, as the full-time power supply for the 12v battery in our original Ace which had no 240V mains as standard, from '82-01 a period of 17 years allowing a car battery to function as a leisure battery and still get 10+ years life from the two batteries used. Rang my local Aldi - they had one left and have put it aside for me. Happy days! Was seconds away from forking out 40 notes for the CTEK.Bexhill? They had about twenty on Sunday. Another solid performance from the IBC7, which does a lot of things well. Looking like an overgrown CTEK MXS, it has long leads and a reconditioning mode, plus can provide a 13.6V supply to maintain power when the battery is removed. As we saw last time, it was still some way off its 7A rating in the charge test and took 16 hours to hit 80 per cent. It failed the EMC test by some margin again, plus it had only IP54 moisture protection compared with many rivals’ IP65. A modern Aldi/Lidl smart charger, with 3. 6-4. 0 Ah rating should be capable of recharging from absolutely flat to 90+% fully charged in around 24 hours but may take another 24 hours of float charging to show 4 LEDS - at 12. 3v the OP's battery should have got to 90+% in around 15 hours.Specifically designed to cater for cars with start/stop systems, the CTEK CT5 helps to maintain your battery if your car has to sit for a little while. It claims to be 'intelligent microprocessor controlled' and has a 'diagnostics programme and controlled charging process'. The Ultimate Speed ULGD 3.8 A1 charger is a device designed to charge batteries in an efficient and effective way. The charger has an output current of up to 3.8 amps and is compatible with various types of lead-acid batteries. The device is equipped with a microprocessor-controlled charging cycle, which automatically adjusts the charging current and voltage to the battery's requirements. Club Motorhome. Ultimate Speed ULGD 3.8 A1 user manual (English - 32 pages)

A huge price jump from the NOCO, the CTEK CS FREE (read our full review) is a big step up in terms of abilities, offering four major functions in this one portable unit. First and foremost, it serves as a battery booster capable of charging a dead battery safely and effectively, all without needing an external power source. The optimum charging cauurent for a battery is around 10% of it's capacity which should therefore get it up to around 80% charge in about 8-10 hours from flat. The last 20% takes a lot longer, possibly another 8-10 hours mainly because the charging current tails off as the charger is voltage limited and frequently switches down to around 13. 8 volts when the charging current drops below a certain level. Some chargers will hold the higher 14. 4 volts for a timed period after the threshold to try and get the last bit in a bit faster - ideally you need to monitor both voltage & current to establish what is going on. The charger has various safety features, including overcharging and short-circuit protection, ensuring the battery is not damaged during the charging process. Its compact size and lightweight design make it easy to carry and store, making it an ideal accessory for those who need to charge their batteries on the go.

The Details

Very happy with the CTEK and even though it cost more, it has a 5 year guarantee. It looks similar to the LIDL one but actually works, which is nice. Also says you can connect it while the battery is connected to the car. The LIDL manual says you have to disconnect the car terminals which can be problematic if you don't know your radio code. Maybe that's just mine, but watch out like.Mines the same. The instructions state there is a low voltage cut out so it won't charge a completely flat battery as the battery could possibly be damaged. A clone of the Swedish C-Tek for a quarter of the price. Anyone who has bought one of these will tell you how versatile it is. It is a fully 'intelligent' charger - 6v and 12v, it will safely charge a completely dead battery and also has a desulphation mode that justifies the price of the unit alone. Includes 12V adaptor, jump starter cable and 3 way USB charging cable for mobile phones and tablets with micro USB / mini USB / or USB-C connection Your car probably has a stop start battery, these are constructed differently to normal batteries, I'm on my second car now with these new type batteries, and according to my dealer require a special expensive charger to fully charge them, how true that is I'm not sure, but I do know the dealer charger charges at around 17 volts.
