About this deal

Somewhere up there, Christopher Lee is rejoicing: five decades on and the harvest is still fruitful. The additional footage is sourced from 35mm prints, which are the only known sources for this material. If its initial 1973 cinema release was a compromised affair – director Robin Hardy’s film was hurriedly cut to function as a tight 90-minute amuse-bouche on a double-bill with Venice-set shocker Don’t Look Now – its reputation has grown ever since. THE WICKER MAN is also much celebrated for its soundtrack, composed by Paul Giovanni and overseen by Gary Carpenter, featuring haunting reworkings of traditional British folk songs. This home release of the Special Collector’s Edition of the film is a great addition to those who are not only classic movie fans but also those who have been a fan of the movie over the years, I have to say that when I went to see this release at Cineworld I was impressed with the 4K restoration and seeing it on my 4K TV at home it looks even better.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the folk-horror classic, THE WICKER MAN, STUDIOCANAL is delighted to announce a brand-new 4K restoration of the film and a series of special events and releases, beginning this Spring and culminating with a Collector’s Edition release in September 2023. People are a bit lost and are looking to reconnect with our past, as we’re becoming ever more city-based and global. Its remains are still partly present today; you can find a concrete block with the remains of the stumps of wooden legs.Britt Ekland is the surprise of the movie and for those that have never seen the movie be prepared for some scenes of nudity from Ekland, the other surprise is that most of the dialogue and singing that is on the screen from Ekland is dubbed over by the Scottish singer and actress Annie Ross. a world leader in the motion picture exhibition industry operating 839 screens in the US, UK, Argentina and Brazil.

There’s a lot of people now looking for alternative visions of Britain, whether real or imagined,” she says.Based in Massachusetts, National Amusements is a closely held company operating under the third generation of leadership by the Redstone family.

On 13th January 1973, as a thank you to the local people of the small Scottish town where THE WICKER MAN had recently been filmed, a one-night-only showing of the then unreleased film took place in a little cinema in Newton Stewart at 3pm.

We always asked to see the film when we were younger, and then more and more people were coming to the area asking about the film and no-one seemed to want to talk to them about it.

The steady masculine baritone heard on Wicker Man tracks such as Corn Rigs and Gently Johnny is Giovanni’s – he briefly appears in the film singing the latter track. Its first film was the UK TV premiere of The Wicker Man, and this was the starting gun for an underground revival of the film.We and our partners use data for Personalised ads and content, ad and content measurement, audience insights and product development. Valid after 7pm Sunday and all day Monday and Tuesday at all Showcase Cinemas and Showcase Cinema de Lux. It’s one of the most disturbing juxtapositions in British cinema: a gigantic wicker figure blazes in a moment of shocking violence as a semicircle of people smilingly incant a traditional English folk song. The town hall where the villagers meet later on May Day is also on the high street and was in fact a church, which has now been turned into a visitor centre.
