Our special Scottish Gin is bursting with botanicals, drenching you in big bold flavours you can taste in every drop. With a love of island life and with each of their respective families being an integral part of the community on North Uist, they decided the time was right to relocate home in and establish a new chapter in both the stories of their families and the island, with their flagship Downpour Gin launching in April 2019. Since getting into gins a few years ago, some of my top choices are from the inner and outer Hebrides. Now with every sip I get transported to the beautiful landscapes and a cool Outer Hebridean summer day.Please note that our production site at Bayhead is currently not open to the public and we have no working stills on site at Nunton Steadings.

Couple Kate MacDonald and Jonny Ingledew both grew up on North Uist before moving to the mainland to follow their careers.

A classic juniper flavour profile that has a big hit of juniper, punchy citrus and a slightly sweet undertone from the use of the Scottish Heather. It's got loads of flavour so not for the faint hearted but literally an amazing gin with a quality tonic, sprig of rosemary and lemon. This has been my favourite gin since I discovered it 12 months ago and just hasn't been knocked of top place since.

The historic Nunton Steadings building on Benbecula will be the site for their brand new distillery. Join us at our Nunton Steadings Visitor Centre to learn about Downpour Gin, botanicals, the distillation process, recipe development, our distillery and island life.

With a rich history, including tales of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his connection with Nunton, this U-Shaped building features beautiful original cobbled floors, which will be the perfect place for the whisky casks during maturation as well as a home for their planned visitor centre. Dogs are welcome - please contact us to let us know in advance so we can arrange the seating appropriately. were granted permission to build their own distillery located on the historic ‘Illeray Common Grazing’ land. Downpour Gin has been showered with awards, including a gold medal in the London Spirits Competition, and a master award in the Spirits Business Gin Masters 2022.

Kate and Jonny are currently distilling from a temporary location on the island until their new distillery is completed. I enjoy it with the recommended lemon and sprig of rosemary but it’s also very nice with pink grapefruit.This expression makes use of wild Hebridean heather as its star botanical, alongside classic notes of citrus and spice.
