About this deal

The Causton playhouse is about to start their last rehearsals for their set up of the famous play "Amadeus" by Peter Schaffer. The actors come in one by one. Rosa Carmichael, Nicholas Bentley, Kitty Carmichael and Esslyn Carmichael, who once was married to Rosa. The director, Harold Winstanley loves what he do, and is clearly fond of the theatre. Esslyn is playing the lead role Salieri, but believes that Nicholas is masking him at every turn. Kitty says he does so, but Harold rejects the claims and says it is up to him to decide whether Nicholas is masking Esslyn or not. Joyce is also a part of the cast, and talks to Tom about it, as she looks forward to the play.

Harold is seen as eccentric and extremely theatrical, considering himself way above the standard of his fellow actors in the 'Causton Amateur Dramatics Society.' He looks down on the cast and crew, regularly blaming them for problems. One example of this, is Deirdre Tibbs, the assistant stage manager, who he chides and is heard calling her a 'stupid girl.'Shout-Out: When Harold Winstanley is caught and to be arrested, he's lured outside when Barnaby and Troy tell him that there are press people here to see him, playing into his delusions. This pays homage to the final scene in Sunset Boulevard when a delusional Norma Desmond is lured out of her home (after committing murder) by police telling her that she's being filmed by a famous director. While some critics criticized the plot and acting, with some claiming it contains hallmarks of slasher films [21] and misogynistic undertones, [22] most critics praised the visual effects employed in making Kevin Bacon appear to be invisible, which earned the film a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 2001 Academy Awards. Esslyn calls Kitty and tells her he is going to be home late. He tells her to go to rehearsals without him. Kitty is in bed with someone. Rosa looks up at the window and sees Kitty with another man. Troy goes to the bookstore to buy his mum a present for her birthday. Avery greets him. Troy is very uncomfortable with Avery. Nico comes in. He is supposed to dust every morning in exchange for the room upstairs. Tim walks in and Troy tells him, “If you're in a hurry, mate, I should try Smiths” not realizing that Tim is co-owner of the store.

Esslyn races to the theater, almost running over Tim. In the Bookstore, Nico is dusting. Nico tells Tim, “I’ve things on my mind. Secret things. Let's just say that soon, my life may be miraculously transformed.” Tim says Esslyn ran a red light. Troy goes to interview Tim and Avery. They are sitting down to have their lunch. They were in the lighting box. Tim pours wine. Avery offers Troy a glass. Troy asks, “Can either of you think of anyone who might have wanted to harm Mr Carmichael?” Tim says, “Well, you've got a wide field. The man was a heartless shit." Avery laughs. Troy asks Tim if he's had personal experience with that. After a wonderful start of Midsomer Murders, with both "The Killings at Badger's Drift and "Written in Blood" being classic episodes, "Death of a Hollow Man" is a step down in quality. "Death of a Hollow Man is not a bad episode, it is just that "The Killings at Badger's Drift" and Written in Blood have a better script and story. Hollow Man (Comparison: Theatrical Version - Director's Cut)". Movie-Censorship.com . Retrieved April 17, 2014.Barnaby tells the others he will be in touch to arrange interviews. Harold proclaims, “I elect to be seen now.” Avery asks Kitty what she is doing- she shouldn’t be by herself tonight. Avery invites her for supper. Tim gives Kitty a dirty look. Kitty tells Avery she will go to a hotel. Harold says to an empty room, “I can tell you now, Tom, I felt a sinister frisson to this production from the very beg... “ Tim tells Avery that when he sits down to supper with someone, he wants to be able to get up again, referring to Kitty as a suspect. I have been on a Midsomer Murders binge lately. Being laid up off and on with my ankle injury, I have watched the whole series on Acorn TV and loved it. I finally decided to start reading the books. This is the second in the book series. Anyway, after seeing this a few times, I do enjoy this and I don't agree with someone who said that they thought Joyce overreacted with the death of the throat cutting scene...this woman was in a drama play for months with these people so, she knew all of them and then, to hear and see the throat cutting, the blood, all of that, next to you? In front of you? Of COURSE you are going to scream. And to see that? Yea...I would scream and probably pee a little, to be honest with you. And, also, watching this episode made me WANT to watch the great movie, Amedaus with the great F. Murray Abraham!

The following actors and actresses that first appeared in this episode have appeared in subsequent episodes In a dark room, Agnes Gray lights a candle and starts praying. Someone creeps up on her and smashes her head. Repeatedly. Her dead body is disposed of in a lake. Kevin Bacon as Dr. Sebastian Caine, an ambitious molecular biologist who has developed a serum that can render the subject invisible. Hollow Man was one of very few films allowed to shoot directly in front of The Pentagon building, with Verhoeven expressing surprise that the script was approved, because of the themes of the United States Government commissioning scientific experiments into making living beings invisible. [5] Many of the location scenes were shot in and around Washington, D.C., with a restaurant set also being constructed in a building overlooking the U.S. Capitol. [5] The laboratory scenes were shot at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California; the elevator shaft used in the film's climax was built onto the side of the studio's parking garage. [5]I have enjoyed all of the books in this series very much – and far more than I expected to. I grew tired of the Midsomer Murders TV series a long time ago, but the books are actually very different in tone and character from what the series became. They are very good novels of character with crime as their plot drivers. Doris and Harold have lunch together. Doris says “I’m sorry I had nothing ready, Harold. It's not like you to be home at midday.” Harold says, “The life of the mind is what nourishes, Doris. The creative tumult in which the genuine artist must sink... or swim. This is coarse clay by comparison. Is there any pudding?” Doris asks if Harold is going to the funeral. Harold seems confused and says what Funeral- oh Esslyn. “No, certainly not. Vanya is taking up all my spare time. I must get on with it right now. I'm going to pay a call on Nicholas. I have to get him him into training. One cannot start too soon. He has an antic disposition. But er... we'll soon stamp that out.” Not-So-Fake Prop Weapon: The killer removes the tape from the edge of a cutthroat razor being used in the play's suicide scene. Barnaby surmises that Harold killed Agnes Gray because she wanted to come clean about the thefts of artwork.
