About this deal

From the revered works of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale to Grant Morrison's sweeping seven-year epic, there are several superb Batman omnibus collections to read through. Starting with the six-issueMan of Steelminiseries, Byrne fundamentally changed Superman's origins and propelled him into the present, including iconic encounters with Lex Luthor, Metallo, Darkseid–and The Joker!

New collection of Jim Starlin’s time writing Batman overlaps with “A Death in the Family” collection below. Some of these collect memorable and highly enjoyable comic runs, like Superman by Grant Morrison, Superman by Peter J.While it has its detractors, and some parts haven’t aged great, it’s still a solid arc that managed to inject some much needed energy to the long-running title. To make matters worth, President Luthor annexes Gotham from the rest of the United States, leaving the city helpless. Any time that Gotham’s Dark Knight and Megacity 1’s Violent Protector get together, it’s bound to be a violent, absurdist good time.

You did have the two-volume Dynamic Duo Archives set but that was a long time ago, the Showcase books were in black and white, and any other reprints have been spread out through various volumes, such as Batman In the Fifties and Batman In the Sixties. But there are moments, strong moments, where O'Neil tests the limits of Batman's commitment to his crusade. I list it here primarily because it’s the mid-way point for the entire DC Universe in the 2000’s, and because Gotham Central, Book 4 features an Infinite Crisis tie-in. It serves as a continuation of ideas set up throughout the New 52 Batman Run by Scott Snyder and adds dangerous new characters to Batman’s list of enemies including the iconic Batman Who Laughs.Others continue already existing and highly anticipated omnibus runs, like Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters Saga Vol. This story shows familiar heroes and villains throughout the ages in a loose approximation of A Christmas Carol… only with more punching. The adventures of one of DC's most distinctive heroes, Deadman, are collected in a decades-spanning hardcover edition. The Black Mirror tells two distinct stories drawn by two different artists -- both masters in their own right -- and then marries them together in the end with an unexpected (and polarizing) twist.

You certainly don’t need to read Grant Morrison and Howard Porter’s late 90’s JLA as part of your Batman experience, but the first story is a great showcase for Batman, and goes a long way to defining the character’s relation to the Justice League and the DC Universe at large. Gotham Central is one of my 25 favorite comic book series of all time, with amazing GCPD stories from Greg Rucka, Ed Brubaker, and Michael Lark. Omnibus books are great for veteran comic book fans, but they're arguably even better for newcomers looking to get into the essentials. Snyder and Capullo kicked off their run by introducing a brand new group of villains to Gotham City - the Court of Owls. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo helmed one of the most consistently high-quality runs on the character in recent years, and their entire run is collected in two omnibus books. The Court of Owls” immediately established Batman as one of the best comics of the New 52 era and Snyder and Capullo as one of the most effective teams working in comics. Action Comics, All-Star Western, Animal Man, Aquaman, Batgirl, Batman, Batman and Robin, Batman Incorporated, Batman: The Dark Knight, Batwing, Batwoman, Birds of Prey, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, DC Universe Presents, Deathstroke, Demon Knights, Detective Comics, Dial H, Earth 2, The Flash, Frankenstein Agent of S.

Now, if that doesn't make you want to read the only worthwhile Robin origin, you just don't like Batman stories. It includes Loeb's writing and a wider team of creatives who capture the best of both worlds when it comes to tone. Of course, it's highly addictive and the always-in-control hero loses his grip, nearly assassinating Jim Gordon just to get his fix. It introduces all the major players and elements while still delivering a satisfying mystery for existing fans to follow along. If you haven't read Strange Apparitions, chances are you've never heard of Bruce Wayne's best love interest, Silver St.
