The Novation Launchkey 37 Mk3 brings a 37 key version to this acclaimed series of USB MIDI keyboards, offering fantastic control and integration with your setup. I've had some issues with another very popular brand that forced me to install bloatware and even after that I had some issues getting it to register in Ableton.

The powerful, yet easy-to-use arpeggiator lets you explore new melodies and create new ideas easily, with the Mutate function giving you access to a huge range of creative variations. No matter how accomplished a keyboardist you are, Launchkey will streamline your creative process and expand your musical vocabulary. It connects to computers or synthesizers, enabling musicians to trigger and control a wide range of sounds. A big new feature is the addition of Strum Mode, a great inspirational tool to help you explore new ideas and add a new dimension to your sound. In addition to the 37-note velocity-sensitive keyboard and 16 velocity-sensitive RGB backlit pads with polyphonic aftertouch, the Novation Launchkey Mk3 has quite a few features allowing you to get hands on with your music.Play chords with one finger – Lay down chords for your track quick with three chord modes — fixed, scale, and user. Control release, delay and reverb or fade in experimental warped layers to add colour to your tracks and scores. Pitch and mod wheels are also onboard along with Octave Up and Octave Down functions for easy manipulation of your sound.

There’s also a built-in arpeggiator with rhythmic controls and 7 playback types opening up plenty of creative avenues. The Scale and Chord Modes, arpeggiator and Custom Modes can all be used to control an all-hardware studio or live rig. If you don’t use Ableton Live, the Launchkey has full integration with Logic and Reason, as well as functionality with many popular DAWs such as Pro Tools, Studio One, and Cubase. When Novation released the original Launchkey, the raised the bar for USB MIDI keyboard controllers.

No problem, Launchkey also has full integration with Logic and Reason, plus out of the box functionality with other DAWs including Studio One, Cubase and Pro Tools, via HUI. This brings me to one of my only complaints about the Launckey MkIII: Most computers keep the power on their USB ports even when turned off, so the only way to stop the glow of those pads is to pull the USB cable out.

As an Ableton user, I was pleasantly surprised this thing worked flawlessly right after installing the lightweight drivers. Scale, Chord and Arpeggiator features are all on board can be used standalone making it easy to perform the music you want to perform.
