a b c Rymill, Gavin (November 2016). "Cyber Conversion!". Doctor Who Magazine. No.504. Tunbridge Wells: Panini UK Ltd. p.45. In 2503, a Cybermat smuggled itself aboard the Vanguard and began sabotaging its systems. Vol shot it, disabling its weapons, but the Cybermen reprogrammed it to take control of the crew's minds. ( AUDIO: Sword of Orion) The Virgin Missing Adventures novel Killing Ground, by Steve Lyons suggests that some Cybermen imitate emotions to intimidate and unnerve their victims. The Big Finish Productions audio play Spare Parts (set on Mondas in the early days of Cyber-conversion) suggests that the Cybermen deliberately remove their emotions as part of the conversion process to stifle the physical and emotional trauma of becoming a Cyberman. Cybermats shared the Cybermen's weakness for gold, but it was possible for gold to be placed inside them without damaging their systems and the gold could be injected into Cybermen as they would inject other humanoids. ( TV: Revenge of the Cybermen) They could also be disabled with electric charges, ( TV: The Tomb of the Cybermen) although this weakness seems to have been eliminated later; one was used to siphon electricity from power sources instead. The same model proved vulnerable to the sonic screwdriver, which was able to either stun or fry the Cybermat memory. ( TV: Closing Time) They could also be disabled with a sonic pulse, using an amplifier. ( GAME: Blood of the Cybermen)

The Doctor pushes past the crowd and finds Nyssa in the square. The two enter the TARDIS. Nyssa questions the Doctor, telling him that the planet isn't Earth. The Doctor replies that it isn't, but had to make sure it was the planet he thought it was before they leave. Nyssa now knows that this is Mondas and the people here are destined to become the Cybermen. The Doctor explains that they can't interfere but the bell is a wake-up call so the people can see what's happening and can stop it before it's too late. He tells Nyssa that the people have to change the future, they can't do it. During the 5320s, the Cyber-Empire had a Cybermat delivered to Addison Delamar so they could harvest the Ninth Doctor's memories of the Last Great Time War. The Cybermat managed to partially convert Delamar before Tara Mishra used gold to destroy it. ( COMIC: The Bidding War) The hand discharge was also present in The Tomb of the Cybermen, which featured a smaller, hand-held Cyber-weapon shaped like a pistol that was described as an X-ray laser. In The Wheel in Space, the Cybermen could use the discharge to also operate machinery, and had death rays built into their chest units. They displayed the same units in The Invasion as well as carrying large rifles for medium distance combat. In Revenge of the Cybermen and the audio play Real Time, their weapons were built into their helmets. Killing Ground indicates that this type of Cybermen also have more powerful hand weapons. Subsequent appearances have shown them armed almost exclusively with hand-held cyberguns. Doctorman Allan tells the cyber recruit that she has to reach the Committee chamber. The recruit says they have to protect the Committee. Allan convinces him that she needs to get the generators restarted. After considering, the recruit says she can go but one of them will accompany her.Later, during the Cyber-Wars, ( PROSE: A Girl Called Doubt) the Cyber Legions used smaller drones called Cybermites, which the Eleventh Doctor realised was an example of how the Cybermen had evolved. ( TV: Nightmare in Silver) These highly-evolved Cybermats were often seeded into planets conquered by the Cyber Legions, and reproduced naturally by harvesting minerals from the planets to construct more Cybermites; this process would be repeated by the newly-constructed Cybermites, and after several months, or even years, the Cybermites would number in the billions, with the power to successfully fully convert people into Cybermen. ( PROSE: A Girl Called Doubt) Cybermites could also perform more traditional Cybermat functions, such as harvesting electricity or being highly covert spies. ( TV: Nightmare in Silver) The 2008 Christmas special, " The Next Doctor", featured a new, more agile variant called a Cybershade. [37] The Doctor theorises that it is a more primitive version of a Cyberman, using the brain of a cat, and they physically resemble animals as they cannot speak and walk on all fours. In the same story a "Cyber-King" appears; according to the Doctor, it is a " Dreadnought-class" ship for use in invasions resembling a Cyberman hundreds of feet tall, and contains a Cyber-factory in its chest. It is controlled from within its mouth. Its right arm can be converted into a cannon, and its left into a laser.

In two Virgin Missing Adventures novels by Craig Hinton, the Cybermen become Cyberlords at some point in their history. They are mentioned in passing in Hinton's The Crystal Bucephalus, where the Cyberlord Hegemony is a peaceful future version of the Cybermen who have an empire in the Milky Way; their description was modelled after Banks's designs. In The Quantum Archangel, there are numerous unexplained references to the Cyberlords as an extremely advanced race. At one point, they are referred to as the Time Lords' greatest ally in the Millennium War, though because that war was supposed to have taken place a very long time before the modern era, it is unclear how this bit of Cyberhistory fits in or whether or not they have achieved advanced time travel capabilities. While not explicitly mentioned, Hinton may have adopted this idea from the aborted script for the Five Doctors by Robert Holmes (scriptwriter), which would have had the Cybermen adopting Time Lord DNA to achieve their higher state of being. The Doctor stares at the temperature gauge on the cold storage door, seeing it drop. The Cybermat got trapped in the room with the Doctor and he decides to test its defences before its owner comes to collect it. CYBERMAT R2 supports wireless charging of the full range of Angry Miao products, including AM HATSU and CYBERBOARD. Both sides of the mat support 5W single device magnetic charging. The dual five-coil zones in the middle support single or dual device charging with a maximum charging power of 7.5W and 11W respectively. Also on the plus side is that having explored some of the core concepts, I still much prefer the way I do things with Typomania. The name "Cyberman" comes from cybernetics, a term used in Norbert Wiener's book Cybernetics or Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine (MIT Press, 1948). Wiener used the term in reference to the control of complex systems, particularly self-regulating control systems, in the animal world and in mechanical networks. By 1960, doctors were researching surgical or mechanical augmentation of humans and animals to operate machinery in space, leading to the portmanteau "cyborg", for "cybernetic organism".Nyssa and Frank are in the TARDIS still working on repairs. She tells Frank that the Cybermat destroyed the console. He says it's the energy that attracts them. Nyssa continues sealing the cables. She asks Frank if the call up involves some kind of processing. He says it's augmentation. They hear a noise and turning the viewer on, Nyssa and Frank see a swarm of Cybermats heading towards the TARDIS. The Doctor and Nyssa finish pouring in the wine. They look out to the city and see that half the city is buried under the glacier. They decide they must change Mondas' course, it won't be able to survive against the endless cold. A Cyberman walks up to them, saying that all civilians must be taken for processing. The Doctor tries to reason with the Cyberman, but it grabs him and Nyssa. Frank comes up from behind and hits the Cyberman, forcing it to let go. The Doctor and Frank, along with Mr Hartley, grabs the Cyberman and throw it out a window to the ground below. The Doctor and Mr Hartley head towards the Committee. Frank stops Nyssa, apologising for how he acted before. They look down and see a squadron of Cyberman. Frank tells her they're processing everyone. They run off to warn the Doctor. A Cyberman grabs Nyssa and Frank saying they are to be processed.

The Doctor Who Team (6 March 2017). "Original Mondasian Cybermen return to Doctor Who!". BBC Latest News – Doctor Who . Retrieved 8 May 2017. In the 1960s, "spare-part" surgery began with the development of gigantic heart-lung machines. Public discussion included the possibility of wiring amputees' nerve endings directly into machines. [2] In 1963, Kit Pedler discussed with his wife (who was also a doctor) what would happen if a person had so many prostheses that they could no longer distinguish themselves between man and machine. [3] He got the opportunity to develop this idea when, in 1966, after an appearance on the BBC science programmes Tomorrow's World and Horizon, the BBC hired him to consult on the Doctor Who serial The War Machines (1966). [4] That eventually led to him writing, with Gerry Davis, The Tenth Planet (1966) for Doctor Who. Tynan, Alexandra; Cook, Benjamin (November 2016). "The Cybermum". Doctor Who Magazine. No.504. Tunbridge Wells: Panini UK Ltd. pp.15–17. An upgraded form of cybermats appeared in " Nightmare in Silver". They were incredibly small mechanical insects that were more versatile and were able to partially convert other lifeforms into Cybermen. They were referred to as cybermites. In an alternate timeline where Rassilon and the Cybermen conquered all of time and space, the Eighth Doctor and Josie Day encountered Cybermats, along with some Cybermen, on a spaceship. In particular, a swarm of Cybermats covered the Doctor's TARDIS when the duo attempted to escape. ( COMIC: Prologue: The Eighth Doctor) This event was erased from history following the Twelfth Doctor and Rassilon’s efforts to regenerate the universe through the Eye of Harmony. ( COMIC: Supremacy of the Cybermen)

Cybermats were also developed on Mondas before the last surviving underground Mondasian city been converted. They were kept as pets. The Fifth Doctor reprogrammed a swarm of Cybermats to feed off their electricity supply of the Central Committee of Mondas, killing them. His efforts were, ultimately, in vain as eventually all of the Mondasians underwent forced cyber-conversion. ( AUDIO: Spare Parts) This section may need clearer distinction between fact and fiction. Symfony’s routing system seems straightforward enough, but the process of having to register everything via a separate routing engine seems likely to become a bit bloated. I could be wrong, and perhaps some amazing advantages are waiting for me if or when I road test it. Parkin, Lance & Pearson, Lars (2012). A History: An Unauthorised History of the Doctor Who Universe (3rd Edition), p. 444. Mad Norwegian Press, Des Moines. ISBN 978-193523411-1.

The Committee questions Zheng as to why the propulsion systems have not been testing. He states the power is not full yet. Power is also needed for the shields over the city. The Committee talks among themselves, then tell Zheng that all citizens of the city must go for cyber-conversion. They tell him to begin with police and nursing staff. The revived programme Cybermen electrocute their victims by touching them and at first carried no other weaponry. In "Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday", the Cybermen are equipped with retractable energy weapons housed within their forearms (these were actually first shown in " The Age of Steel", but only very briefly and were not used during that episode), but also use advanced human weapons to battle the Daleks. The arm mounted guns prove effective against humans but are unable to penetrate Dalek shields. Two Cybermen sent to parley with Dalek Thay at the Battle of Canary Wharf shot the Dalek but were promptly exterminated. In the Torchwood episode " Cyberwoman", the partially converted Lisa Hallett used her electrical touch against the Torchwood team, as well as an energy beam fired from her arm which could only stun the part of the body at which it was aimed. In " The Pandorica Opens", the Cybermen again have the wrist-blaster, but also regain the modified human weapons. In " Nightmare in Silver", the Cybermen have the ability to move at a warp-like speed. At this speed they appear as blurry after images. Cyberman had also overcome the weakness of solely being able to convert human-like species; the Doctor had been safe from being in danger of conversion until this point. Doctorman Allan places the Doctor on the scanner table. He continues to ask about Nyssa and if she's all right. Zheng tells Allan that Constant has been sent for processing. Zheng tells Allan to look at the Doctor's scans. This section does not cite any sources. Please help improve this section by adding citations to reliable sources.
