About this deal

Let your child see how a floatsuit feels once they are wearing it—they tend to be much more comfortable and less restrictive than armbands. Foam floats are integrated into the swimming costume, so you can adjust the buoyancy as your child becomes more confident in the water and as their swimming abilities improve. It also means your child can’t easily remove the floats, which is a potential hazard with armbands. I wouldn’t ever think that I’d need to consider a thermal swimsuit for swimming in normal swimming pools, but this is such a great design that it’s a must-have! I wish it was around for my first daughter, she used to only be able to swim for 20 mins in our local pool before she turned a different colour! And that was with a few layers on, and a Splash About Baby Wrap.

Rinse the floatsuit thoroughly in cool water after use and leave to dry naturally, out of direct sunlight. At this age, your baby might start baby swimming classes and can stay in the water for longer. Standard swimming costumes are fine, but must be worn with a swim nappy to avoid accidents in the pool.

For peace of mind, choose baby swimwear with an integrated swim nappy, as these are designed to prevent faeces leaking into the pool. Alternatively, use a reusable swim nappy with your child’s usual swimming costume. Reusable swim nappies have many advantages over disposable swim nappies. You can read more about the benefits of reusable swim nappies here

Preventing leaks—your baby will be in the pool for longer periods now they’re older, so choose swimwear with an integrated swim nappy to avoid any accidents. Warmth—younger babies will still need extra warmth, especially in cooler pools, so choose baby swimwear which is made from neoprene, or has a thermal lining. Swim nappies are an essential piece of swimwear and any child who isn’t potty-trained will need to wear one in a swimming pool. They are enforced as part of the double-layer nappy system requirement by most organised baby swimming lessons. Let them choose the style they prefer—there are plenty of options available, including bright patterns and colours to suit every child’s taste. Many of Splash About’s designs come in classic or long-sleeve designs—for example, our navy with white strip design is available as a sun protection floatsuit and in a classic swimsuit design. As the floats are integrated into the swimming costume, your child needs only to put on one garment to have everything they need, rather than having to negotiate a swimming costume and a flotation device.Wearing the correct size of floatsuit will help keep your child as safe as possible. So choose a suit based on their weight, chest circumference and height, rather than just their age.

Having never used any sort of flotation aid with either of our daughters, this was a new one for us! We went for a family swim at the local pool, and Heidi absolutely loved having freedom to float away from us; and thought it was funny to let go and try her own swimming techniques. It was great for her solo water confidence. Choose swimwear made from UPF fabric to protect your children’s delicate skin from the sun. Splash About’s UV all-in-one collectionfeatures UPF 50+ sun protection. For sun protection with the added benefit of integrated floats, choose our UV floatsuits. The Happy Nappy Duo offers the same reliable leak protection as the Happy Nappy, with the added benefit of a silver lined layer that acts as a 2nd nappy, insisted upon by swim schools. This silver lining kills germs before they leave the nappy, protecting your baby and other swimmers from pathogens leaking into the pool. Both the Happy Nappy and the Happy Nappy Duo are accepted and endorsed by UK Swim Schools. Although Splash About’s floatsuits are made from chlorine-resistant fabric, you still need to care for them as you would any regular swimwear.I love that the flotation bars can be removed gradually as she becomes a stronger swimmer, until it will really just be her ‘swimming coat’. It comes in the gorgeous array of patterns that we love about the Splash About products. Neoprene swimwear—this will give your little one extra warmth and let you grip them more securely when in the water.

The floats work with your child’s natural buoyancy, so when using a swim vest for the first time, you may need to remove some floats to achieve the optimum level of balance for your child. Inflatability isn’t adjustable, although there are float disc armband systems available where float discs can be gradually removed Babies will be able to spend a little more time in the pool at this age, so expect swimming sessions to last around 20–40 minutes. For this reason, it’s a good idea to invest in the right swimwear so they can fully enjoy their time in the water. When choosing the right size of suit for your child, don’t go by their age. Instead, measure their chest circumference, body length and weight, to ensure the best fit possible. I’ve been handwashing this along with the Happy Nappy Duo and the changing mat after use, and it feels very durable. This is what I love most about the Splash About products, they never seem to show any wear despite being used and washed so much.Neoprene swimwear has many benefits, including providing insulation to help babies feel warmer in the water.
