In the options for all cameras, I switched off the camera overlays so that I had a clean feed coming through to the monitor, so the only overlays were those placed by the monitor itself. Powerwise, in this test, I opted for Sony NP-F type batteries but also popped in one of the Canon LP-E6 batteries, which worked just as well. There is an HDMI input and output, which can put out a 1920 x 1080p60 signal at 60Hz. Tools include 3D LUT support to 17grid, anamorphic squeeze with fine squeeze control, and UI from the camera. PortKeys has just announced a new 5-inch field monitor: the PortKeys PT5. The newcomer features a 1080p display with a decent 500nit brightness and a 4K HDMI input plus a 4K HDMI output. The good news continues when we start to look at picture processing, test and measurement options. This featherweight monitor supports 3D LUTs loaded from USB devices, plus a wide range of overlays, including audio level metering, peaking, false colour, and, best of all, both luma and RGB parade waveforms. The waveforms appear to be updated at the native frame rate of the video signal, without lag, and with enough resolution to look crisp, at least in the small area of the screen they occupy. Hats off to the firmware people: nice work. Spooky season is coming to an end, but we can celebrate its final day with some fantastic short films.
