A lot of ‘later you will read’ ‘further on in the book..’ and was so constant it actually got annoying! Unless you’re an athlete who is incredibly lean and needs to make a very minimal change to their body composition, you don’t need to bother figuring out how much fat your body has on it, a photograph will suffice. That’s because if you are one of the many people out there trying to lose weight, you need to be in a calorie deficit. A lot of my clients who are fat — and I use the word fat, I’m not afraid of that — will say to me, ‘James, I’m putting on weight but I’m not eating much’. I say to them, ‘Weekends’.

What a load of rubbish! This guy thinks he is something he is not. I struggled to get through his vacuous egotistical ramblings. Nothing new here. All rehashed ideas. His views on relationships are ill thought out and potentially dangerous, encouraging ppl to leave relationships as you have to look after no1. No mention of being open, patient or longevity. There are so many holes in most of his laddish philosophies.James is most definitely not a life coach. The irony of the title is not lost. The writing style is painful, hard to read and full of repetitive phrases. The content too, is just awful, embarrassing almost, it makes me wonder who pushed it to publication. That’s why, when I left the corporate world (which I hated by the way), many people suggested I become a personal trainer. I remember thinking, even though personal training won’t pay as well, at least I would get higher job satisfaction and be able to wear my shorts to work’. Honestly I tried everything under the sun to lose weight, until I suddenly thought hold on a minute, something isn’t adding up here with all this fitness industry bulls**t’. If you want to know exactly how much fat you have on your body, you must be dissected. We have all kinds of rays, impedances, calipers but they’re all close estimates. What should you do then? How will you know you’re shedding fats? Take a picture over time at the same time of day, location, lightning and hydration. Man I really dislike this book and this guy. What a load of rubbish I just listened to. It was like he was having an argument with someone the whole time. What I do care about is businesses telling you their method is the only way, or selling you fake science about their products that just isn’t true. But if you think James is just a personal trainer pushing one message about calories again and again, with a few swearwords thrown in, you would be wrong. Your BMR can be measured using an online calculator and is determined by someones weight, height and age – the three main components that will quantify the amount of calories you burn at rest (that’s the calories you burn without even moving).BUT tell me honestly what kind of a life is that? If your spending all living hours in the office, quite frankly life simply isn’t worth living. You could be a very successful business man but if you don’t leave the office then what are you going to of with all the money?

I gave the Insanity workout a go and jumped around my living room everyday for two months. I wore multiple layers to rugby training thinking that if I sweat more I would burn more calories, but I still wasn’t losing any weight, so then I decided to blame my ‘slow’ metabolism. This is determined when looking at someones Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (EAT) and Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) aka gym training and non-gym training.Now though you get, ‘who is going downstairs to meet the delivery guy then?’ I mean come on, all you have to do is walk to your front door and even that’s too much of an effort for some people. A lot of the book was rehashing stuff that I was already familiar with, having followed him and suchlike, but that's to be expected. His social media and online presence will only reach so many people, and despite how much his following has grown in the last few years, a book, published and released into the wild, will reach a much vaster audience, and likely a good chunk of those readers will not know who he is or what he's about. There is a ton of good information in here, but it is true to its word that it is NOT a diet book. You will not come away from this book with a new fad eating plan that's guaranteed to burn the fat into lean muscle overnight without lifting a finger, just eat this one mystery food every day at 3:29PM and watch the fat melt/burn/evaporate/transfigure off like the magic it would be. You will come away from this book with a LOT more information, a much improved fitness industry Bullshit Detector, and a more positive outlook on your prospects for achieving and maintaining a lifestyle that works for you.
