About this deal

Fireplace logs made of coffee grounds burn hotter longer and emit less carbon dioxide than wood logs, according to companies that manufacture them. Comparing that to wood that needs to season/be seasoned to burn well (storage/cost) and the obvious benefit of using spent coffee beans vs forests. The logs from our latest bag of kiln dried firewood were so dry that our moisture meter couldn’t even provide a reading.

One environmentally conscious way to bring warmth to your home is by creating logs using upcycled coffee grounds. But you don’t have to worry about your house smelling like the local coffee hangout, as Coffee Logs don’t smell of coffee when they’re burning. Hi, I’m James, I’ve been using traditional open fireplaces and wood burning stoves for many years, and I’ve also recently bought a bioethanol fireplace. However, a lot of people underestimate how dangerous it can be if you don’t burn logs properly, so keep reading for some tips on how to use them safely this winter.Thankfully, with Firemizer, no clumps were left and we were able to brush off the collected ash into the pan. You can even make your own coffee logs at home if you have sufficient waste grounds and rather a lot of patience.

From our experience of burning through a number of bags of coffee logs they can produce more smoke than burning either properly seasoned or kiln dried logs, but won’t produce as much smoke as burning wood that is too wet (over 20% moisture content). That makes them a better value option for anyone who wants to heat their home - and because they reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as the waste being discarded, Coffee Logs also help the environment too. It is of the utmost importance that your grounds are completely dry and that your mixture is thoroughly and well blended with a glossy, sludge-like consistency before setting the log. We have a whole article explaining kiln dried firewood in more detail here, but in summary kiln dried logs are pieces of wood that have been artificially dried within a kiln so that they can be used effectively as firewood. The official Macmillan Coffee Morning was on Friday 29 September 2023, but you can host when you like.

Once the wax is completely melted, remove the pan from the oven and make certain your coffee grounds are completely dry. Kiln dried firewood can in many cases be much lower in moisture content compared to seasoned firewood, which we’ve found to be true.
