About this deal

I found this in many ways the best blanket, mainly because the fluffy sheepskin-style fleece isn’t thick at all – and bedsheets are easier to attach and keep flat on a thinner electric blanket.

My only criticism is that the controllers don’t light up like the Homefront’s below, making them harder to use at night – but most people will pre-set the blanket before getting into bed anyway. The traditional electric blanket – those which lie on your bed, warming it up – might evoke images of your Nanna in her nightgown, but actually, they’re a very savvy choice that have been brought bang up to date and cost as little as 1p to run. Drawing 100 Watts it costs 5p an hour to run, and you may not even need to use it for that long since it warms up super-quickly. It also means you don’t need to put up with feeling cold, and they can help you save on your electric bills. With you both being able to decide on a heat setting for your side of the bed, there’s no need to argue about who gets to choose the temperature setting – giving you both a comfortable and cosy night’s sleep! Beurer have manufactured this item using ultra thin wires to avoid the pain and annoyance of lying on the wires and waking up.

There are several types on the market – under-blankets, over-blankets, throws and duvets – but we’re going to focus on under-blankets, which fit between your mattress and bed sheet. This is perfect for when you’ve forgotten to turn your blanket on in advance, as you can set it to quickly preheat and then get into a warm bed in just 8 minutes. This velvety, soft-as-a-baby-bunny throw comes in a gorgeous inky navy that looks super high-end and we loved the herringbone stitching on it too. It’s quite hard to keep track of what time you’re at when you hit the higher numbers, and I found it occasionally switched off prematurely. There are single controls with three heat settings meaning if you share a bed, you both need to like it at the same temperature. On one side it’s a deep-pile Sherpa fabric that creates a bed that just needs to be snuggled into – even when the blanket itself is switched off. They’re perfect for snuggling up on the sofa under, or having across your lap during the day whether you’re working or relaxing.

The LCD control pad was simple to use and, on top of choosing which side you want to heat, you can also differentiate between body and legs, with nine different temperature settings for each. But what we particularly liked about this heated throw was how easy it was to use, despite having 20 settings. The heat was mainly focused in a few patches on the blanket, rather than throughout, but they’ve been placed to ensure they’re at the points you’re going to be in contact with the pad. This blanket also costs around 1p to warm your bed (if you use it for two hours on the low setting). The controller is on the left hand side when looking over from the foot of the bed (right hand side when layed on the bed).

If you sleep with a partner, look out for the dual control function, which allows one side of the bed to heat up independently to another. Not only does it look great – and highly inviting – draped over the corner of a sofa, the LED controls offer six temperature settings and three auto shut-off timers – one, three or nine hours.

This means that you’ll never have to worry about forgetting to turn your blanket off and that you can even program the timer to turn off whilst you sleep! An over blanket may be more suitable that goes over the top of your bed and does not fit onto your mattress. During testing, we didn’t notice any cold patches and our co-tester appreciated that they didn’t need to have their side switched on as the dual controls allow each side of the blanket to be adjusted independently. If you suffer from allergies or asthma, why not check out Beurer’s AllergyFree range of blankets, which is specially designed to aid with allergy relief while you sleep. If you share a bed with someone who doesn’t like to sleep at the same temperature as you, go for dual controls so you can make sure your side of the bed is perfect for you. It is important that the heated blanket is fully dried before connecting it to the plug and before use.
