About this deal

I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. Lady D'Arbanville was the 'hit', from those days when you had to have a 'hit' to sell the album and is the only track that really harks back to his first success. His second album was a commercial failure and in the autumn of 1968, he was hospitalized, with a diagnosis of tuberculosis and a collapsed lung. SINGLES OF OLD WERE REPLACED BY A STRIPPED DOWN POP/ROCK/BLUES SOUND AND MORE SERIOUS LYRICAL APPROACH.

Mona Bone Jakon’, his first album for Island, showcased a markedly different change in direction for Cat, unveiling with it a remarkable set of new compositions that included classics like ‘Trouble’, ‘Maybe You’re Right’ and the UK hit single ‘Lady D’Arbanville’.To commemorate the album’s 50th anniversary comes this expanded 2CD edition which includes a stunning new 2020 remaster of ‘Mona Bone Jakon’ by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road, overseen by original producer Paul Samwell-Smith, plus a second disc of demos and live rarities and booklet with full sleevenotes.

Considerato che costa poco più di un pacchetto di sigarette, sarebbe un delitto non inserirlo nella propria discoteca. Back in 1970 and following a period of illness and recuperation, singer-songwriting troubadour Cat Stevens re-emerged with a new record deal with Island Records and a spiritual and artistic rebirth. They were played on acoustic guitars and keyboards and accompanied by a smaller backing band, consisting of three other performers: second guitarist Alun Davies, bassist John Ryan, and drummer Harvey Burns—and on one song, "Katmandu", Peter Gabriel on the flute. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. The album sold slowly (at first) but over time has been certified Gold for sales/shipments of more than 500,000 copies in the United States.

The symbolism of the cover artwork was related to Stevens' original intended title for the album, The Dustbin Cried the Day the Dustman Died. Mona Bone Jakon, his first album for Island, showcased a markedly different change in direction for Cat, unveiling with it a remarkable set of new compositions that included classics like Trouble, Maybe You’re Right and the UK hit single Lady D’Arbanville. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives.

Emerging from his recuperation with a new deal with Island Records, 1970 saw the release of Mona Bone Jakon, and with it a new sound which would forge the Cat Stevens sound we know and love today. To commemorate the album’s 50th anniversary comes this new 180-gram vinyl version containing a stunning new 2020 remaster of ‘Mona Bone Jakon’ by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road, overseen by original producer Paul Samwell-Smith. According to a 1972 interview with Stevens, the inspiration for the title was a name he created to describe his penis: "'Mona Bone Jakon' is another name for my penis. The reason I did not choos 5 stars is that I play it in the car and there must be something wrong with the actual CD as it does not behave like the others I play in my car.

What rescues the record is, taken as a whole, it is a complete and dramatic journey of someone who is looking here and there and asking a lot of questions and ultimately, seeing fame and fortune for what it is. Presented here in a brand new 2020 Remastered version on CD, as well as in a new 2020 Mix (by David Hefti) on CD and LP, the Super Deluxe Edition also includes an exclusive third CD of previously unreleased demos, and a fourth CD featuring 18 live performances from 1970/71. He added that "Stevens' craggy voice, with its odd breaks of tone and occasional huskiness, lent these sometimes sketchy songs depth". Samwell-Smith also produced the album and brought Stevens a high-fidelity sound that was not as present on his previous releases.

There needs to be honesty and there should be a declaration on the album cover and advert that the original analogue has been mastered digitally. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. Non il primo in ordine di tempo, bensì quello che apre la trilogia di capolavori (gli altri due sono Teaser and the firecat a Tea for the tillerman, successivi a questo).IF YOU WANT AN OVERVIEW OF HIS WHOLE CAREER GO FOR ONE OF THE COMPILATIONS - BUT TO ME THESE THREE ALBUMS REPRESENT CAT AT HIS VERY PEAK. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc.
