About this deal

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The only critique I can say is that it seemed to flow a bit slower than the other books. It was a lovely calm read that I made my way through over the last bank holiday of the year. The characters are just so wonderful, they truly stay with you, and Ireland! Oh how Montefiore sells it! How she describes Ireland is fascinating, I could never tire of her amazing descriptions of Ballinakelly. Ondanks de vermelding van vele lezers dat ze direct meegezogen waren in het verhaal duurde het hier wat langer. Er was wat tijd nodig om alle personages te leren kennen en in het verhaal te groeien. From here it covers WWI, the Easter Rising and the Irish Civil War. This part was very interesting. It showed the characters patriotism and how they reacted to events but it's not heavy unreadable stuff. Now this book, The Girl in the Castle, captured me immediately. If you like stories set in Ireland, reading a bit of the historical fiction interspersed about the Irish War for Independence and a bit of ghost appearances to boot - you will love this book. Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree is the unforgettable, evocative, and moving tale of forgiveness and love. It follows the lives of the Solanas family living in the tumultuous years of political turmoil in Argentina. Sofia Solanas is the lead character, a proud, resourceful, wilful, spoilt daughter of Argentine nobility. She lives on an expansive ranch and has been brought up under the spiritual practices of the gauchos, and the time-honored traditions of her highborn parents. Everybody seems to love Sofia except for Anna, her Irish mother who visits her sense of inadequacy and alienation on her daughter. When Sofia gets into a steamy love affair that her mother believes would disgrace the family if it ever came out, she banishes Sofia to Europe. By sending her away, she inadvertently exiles the daughter not only from her soul mate for over a decade but also from her family.

When I read The Girl in the Castle I didn't know it was book one in a trilogy. That story ended well and didn't leave you hanging. Maybe one little mystery at the end but otherwise, it could have been a stand alone novel. It was quite a treat to find two more books were planned as I very much enjoyed the characters and plot. THE GIRL IN THE CASTLE is set around 1910 and lets us into the lives of aristocrats and the lives of servants in a castle.International bestselling author Santa Montefiore continues the story of the Deverill family in the third book in her beautiful and moving Deverill Chronicles trilogy—perfect for fans of Kate Morton and Beatriz Williams Bridie Doyle, now Countess di Marcantonio and mistress of Castle Deverill, is determined to make the castle she used to work in her home. But just as she begins to feel things are finally going her way, her flamboyant husband Cesare has other ideas. As his eye strays away from his wife, those close to the couple wonder if he really is who he says he is. The story starts with us learning that a woman called Margot has been hired to be the Writer in Residence of a popular hotel. The hotel had previously been the home for the Deverills; a castle that they had owned for 300 years. Margot's task is to write a book about the castle and the family.

If you look at the Facebook posts about Santa Montefiore's books, it is usually the ladies who read them. But sporadically, a male reader also appears. Like myself. An enchanting read overflowing with deliciously poignant moments’ DINAH JEFFERIES on Songs of Love and War The story itself is very much about Margot Hart. She is writing a book about The Deverills. JP, the current lord Deverill, is helping her with her with her investigation on the family history for her book. His family don’t trust him nor her and are trying to stop the book from being written. Can they regain the trust of the family?

Fiction by Santa Montefiore

It's a story about love and friendship. Although this was nothing like 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞; the friendship element in the book made me think about how Rob's friendship (from Eleanor Oliphant) helped with Eleanor's healing process... How acts of kindness can change someone's view of life. Determined to fulfil her mother’s last wish, Faye travels to the picturesque village of Ballinakelly to scatter her ashes on the hills overlooking the sea in a remote corner of Ireland. In searching for answers about her mother’s past, will Faye’s own future become clear?
