About this deal

The book/movie tell the story of a little girl by the name of Matilda Wormwood who is not only a genius, but also has telekinetic powers.

Wormwood was modelled after a man named Ginger Henderson who owned the gas station in town, and was known as a “black market dealer. The award is voted on by actual children, and is awarded every year in the UK to the books the kids choose as their favorites. We’ve managed to break plenty of viral news stories in the past, from the release of the new Lion King live-action movie to the announcement that Holly Willoughby would be replacing Ant McPartlin on I’m A Celebrity. However, Matilda told them she did not want to leave and convinced them to sign the adoption papers that would leave Matilda in Miss Honey's care, which they agreed to since they weren't all that interested in her. Miss Honey is shocked when she discovers that Matilda has already read Charles Dickens, can perform complex mental math, and can compose limericks on the spot. Miss Trunchbull is one of the most iconic villains in all of children’s media, both in book and movie form. In the case of Disney and Pixar movies, it’s not uncommon for films to feature countless references to the studios’ other properties, whether they’re integrated into the background of shots or just referenced in dialogue. Over the years, Matilda has become such a classic that it’s hard to imagine anyone else taking the role, but Davidtz was actually not the first actress considered to bring the hero of children’s literature to life.

Their logic was that if they spent their own time and resources writing the screenplay off the bat, Roald Dahl’s widow would be more likely to give them the time of day and take a chance on their vision. When the headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, refuses, Miss Honey decides to give Matilda upper-level textbooks so she can study independently. The musical won 12 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, and five Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical.

Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman decided to adapt Matilda into a movie after reading the novel to their kids. A special set of four stamps celebrating the 30th anniversary of The BFG was also released as a special collector’s set. Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito played Matilda’s parents in the movie, and Perlman was also DeVito’s wife at the time. Bruce Bogtrotter loves all things sweet in the movie/book, and when he steals a slice of Miss Trunchbull’s chocolate cake, she forces him to eat the whole 18-inch cake in front of the entire school.

What is worse for Miss Honey was when she was five when her father died (the cause of which is unknown, but is thought to have been a suicide), leaving her to be tortured by Trunchbull. After spending between 6-8 months writing the book, Dahl felt that it wasn’t right, and so he started the whole thing over again. She is stylishly dressed in a striped top and tutu skirt, but she can easily be re-outfitted in any of our doll dress-up kits (available separately).

To do this, Matilda used her powers to make Trunchbull think that Magnus' ghost was haunting her at the school, forcing her to give Miss Honey her house and inheritance from her father. In 1996, Roald Dahl’s Matilda, one of the most iconic children’s stories ever written, was turned into an equally beloved movie – and the story of its creation is pretty surprising. So why not have a look through some of our articles and increase your musical knowledge in the process?Wormwood to get Matilda private tutoring so that Matilda can attend university, but the Wormwoods insult Miss Honey—choosing education like Miss Honey did, they insist, isn’t what women should do with their lives. Prior to his daughter bringing home the book, DeVito had never even heard of it, but as he and his wife acted out the roles of the parents, he realized it would make a great movie. In the end, the trailer for the upcoming Matilda movie featured both a section of score from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as the iconic Harry Belafonte track Jump in the Line, which was famously used in Burton’s 1988 movie Beetlejuice.
