Neither LIDAR nor will Roomba’s camera based navigation be confused by the glass. I too have a home with lots of glass and I have never experienced any issues. iRobot’s premium-level robots are limited to two primary models – the S9 and the J7 series. A new J7 option will be released soon with a hybrid functionality. Higher-end options from the S-series (S4 Max, S5 Max, S6 MaxV) to the S7 and S7 MaxV series all use LIDAR and SLAM. While the E4 isn’t the least expensive, it certainly provides a lot of value. The most impressive feature based on the tests is how efficient it navigates. This isn’t your typical robot that wanders around in a random direction after it bumps into something. It’s more sophisticated with the dual gyroscope system and opticEye sensor underneath. I’ve been testing the E4 for the past few days, and I’ve been impressed most with its navigation, which isn’t like most budget-level robots that tend to bump into furniture with force. It has as much airflow as more premium robots like the Roomba S9 and Neato D7, making clean passes.More impressive was how the E4 was able to achieve this score even with fewer passes than the S5 or S5 Max. Sand on hard floor test The i3 or i7 will yield better performance on your carpets for sure (at least based on our testing data), but it’s not to say the S4 Max is a bad performer. Unfortunately, I haven’t tested the Ecovac t5. So I’m not qualified to say if it’s really worthy of consideration. But in general, I haven’t been blown away with other Ecovac models we’ve tested.I’ve tested the J7 extensively, and its algorithm is smart enough not to get too close, unlike other brands that get too close and rub against pet feces. All S7 (with and without the MaxV) utilize the VibraRise feature with the vibrating mopping pad and pad lifting feature, so the pad raises when it detects carpet. There are margins for error in these tests, but the figures I got were consistent in multiple occurrences. With Roomba, the vacuum will clean the area assigned. When it’s done, it will send a signal to the mopping robot and it will start its cycle. They work together until the job is done, but you only have to assign the cycle to start once.
