About this deal

Petrol lawn scarifiers are powerful, versatile and great for large lawns. They are ideal to use in areas with lots of weeds because they aerate effectively and are heavy duty. An electric scarifier may just “bounce off” in dense, heavily weeded spots. Whereas a petrol scarifier will grind it out and finish the job. However, petrol scarifiers are heavy, emit fumes, and can be time-consuming to start. They are noisy, so you may want to wear ear defenders, and will require maintenance such as filter and spark-plg changes. My opinion of this AL-KO lawn rake and scarifier kept improving after I started scarifying my mossy lawn. It didn’t take long for the machine to pull all of the moss and thatch out, and its large 1500W engine prevented it from overheating when it was used for longer stretches.

A dethatcher is any tool that can remove thatch from a lawn, hence its name. Dethatching can be achieved using tools such as rakes, power rakes, and even scarifiers. In other words, dethatching is a general term used to describe thatch removal. Similarly, scarifying is a type of dethatching. However, scarifying is more aggressive than other dethatching methods like raking and is generally used when there’s more than ½ inch of thatch to remove. ScarifierWhen it comes to choosing whether you go for an electric, cordless or petrol scarifier, consider the pros and cons associated with each type: Large wheels are very efficient when you need to cover a rough lawn. It’s the reason GC-SA 1231/1 comes with comparatively bigger wheels, covers difficult lawn and places minimal stress on the soil. The machine has a collection bag worth 28 litres. With all the power and features, the scarifier covers an area up to 300 m2. It has a long handle, which you can fold after the maintenance session is over.

So, if your thatch is less than 1/2 inch, use a dethatcher; if the thatch is more than ½ inch, use a scarifier. If your garden is on the small side, or if you’re only seeking a lawn scarifier (without the aerator) then it may not be worth splurging on Hyundai’s 2-in-1 Lawn Scarifier. However, I consider this the best lawn scarifier and aerator machine overall. It’s definitely a good option for medium or large gardens. The collection box has a worth of only 28 litres, which is comparatively lower than many other models. So, keep in mind that you need to spend some extra time to dispose of the waste from your lawn, especially if the coverage area is bigger than usual. Electric lawn scarifiers are quiet, lightweight and cost effective. They are great to use on small to medium lawns. Electric scarfiers do a great job of hauling the moss and thatch from your grass with minimal effort on your part. They won’t need re-filling like a petrol scarifier either. However, they’re not always as powerful as petrol scarifiers and you may find yourself restricted by the cord length. So, think of lawn scarifier vs dethatcher as references to the attachments dethatching machines use, not what the actual term means. In other words, scarifying is an attachment that cuts into the ground/thatch, and a dethatcher is an attachment that rakes the loose surface material on top of the thatch.A lot of people get confused about the differences between a lawn raker and a scarifier because they have an almost identical function.

Start by evenly working over the whole lawn in one direction, then turn 90 degrees and go across the whole area again. So, you might want to read the given guide and know how to choose a suitable scarifier for your garden. Types: Petrol, Electric or Manual Scarifier?Out of the lawn scarifiers I tested, the AL-KO Comfort 38E has the widest lawn raker width at 38 cm. Electric corded aerators: Lightweight, quiet and often at the budget-end, these are best suited to small and medium-sized gardens with a power supply. Most come with a collection box, which is a useful, time-saving feature, but the cord length can be restrictive as well as potentially hazardous. A lawn raker is a piece of gardening machine designed to remove moss from lawns to promote the growth of healthy grass and prevent lawn disease. Assembly Ease: The first test I conducted was how easy each scarifier was to assemble. Scarifiers that took me 30 minutes or more to assemble were marked down, as these would likely take the average gardener a long time to put together. Models with minimal assembly requirements that took 15 minutes or less to assemble and had detailed instructions were rated high in terms of assembly ease. Once you’ve worked out which type of lawn scarifier will suit your needs, there are several key features to look out for:

The electric scarifier has a durable housing made of high-quality impact-resistant plastic. Under the hood, there is an efficient, powerful and reliable engine that works at high torque and provides desired results. It has 3 working depth adjustments. So, you can use both scarifier and aerator attachments according to the lawn conditions. Apart from the three depth, GC-SA 1231/1 has a standing position that protects the surface as well as its attachments. A scarifier has a scarifying roller with stepped steel blades. These blades penetrate into the turf and remove lawn felt, moss and plant debris. This can be compared to a solid, narrow-pronged rake that pierces the ground a little and takes some of the desired lawn felt with it when it is pulled out. For small areas this method can also be used, but for large areas a motorised scarifier is recommended. No matter what type of machine is used, it is important to remove the parts of plants that have died off in winter, as they take away the light and air from the sprouting grass. It is important to remember that only dry, freshly mown lawn should be scarified. If your lawn is much over 300m 2 and needs scarifying then the only way of making the work less arduous is to use a petrol scarifier. If you’re caring for a fine or ornamental lawn only a good quality sharp petrol scarifier will be able to cut through the thatch cleanly without excessive damage. Scarification is a multi-faceted operation, used for different purposes, and with variants such as verti-cutting and even grooming. The main difference between types is essentially how deep the operation goes into the turf.”This service use FedEx, Parcelforce, TNT, UK MAIL, Palletways, UPS, Royal Mail and APC delivery serivices withing the UK. With a sizeable 1500W motor, this machine is pretty powerful. It feels faster than the others I tested, and it’s also noticeably wider (36cm instead of the standard 32cm) meaning that it won’t take you quite as long to scarify your lawn. Not only will it save you time, but it does a great job too. Once you find the right height setting for your lawn, it’ll pull up moss and thatch without damaging healthy grass. It doesn’t leave the lawn quite as churned up as some of its competition, yet it effectively removes what it needs to.
