About this deal

Who would have thought somewhere as beautiful as Llantrisant could hide so many horrors? The castle is said to be haunted by the ghosts of soldiers who were slaughtered there while the ghost of the former workhouse warden floats through town his keys jangling. Moments later she heard the door open and, turning round, saw a man in a gold-laced suit enter the room and cross to the window, where he proceeded to gaze out into the night.

But any fears she may have had, were soon dispelled by the sheer opulence of the room and, reasoning that they probably hadn’t wanted a stranger wandering the castle at night, the woman sat by the fire, and began reading her bible. Tell me more: You might assume that the most-sighted spirit at Dylan Thomas' Boathouse would be that of the poet himself. The ghost of a woman who tragically drowned herself in a nearby lake roams the grounds, and it is here that the cry of the Gwrach y Rhibyn is heard (Welsh Banshee). On a personal visit to the jail I was using my Ovilus device, which allows spirits to manipulate an in-built dictionary through their energy to communicate. I stood next to the coffin that is placed in the middle of the floor by the cells and immediately the word that presented itself was “Coffin”! The device also stated the word “release” when I exited the building. It seems the ghosts and spirits at this location are highly intelligent! Ruthin Gaol exterior In 1780 an elderly spinster arrived at the soaring red sandstone walls of Powis Castle, where she hoped to earn a little money spinning hemp and flax for the household. The Earl and his family were away in London, but the steward and small detachment of servants seemed more than happy to give the old lady employment, and even offered her a free nights accommodation.

Margam Castle

That lady is believed to be Gwyneth Erica Morgan, the sister of the second viscount of Tredegar Evan Morgan. She died aged 29 in London after disappearing mysteriously on a trip to the capital. Her body was said to be found floating in the Thames six months later, with the family split on her cause of death. You will hear more about Beaumaris later on in our journey. Other ghostly figures include a boy who sprinkles salt on tables, a young girl from the Pugh family who is said to have been murdered at the hall for falling in love with a non-catholic boy and a soldier. An old lady is seen sitting by the fire place and guests feel like they are constantly being watched. It is her ghost that is believed to haunt the house which is now a shrine to the memory of her famous son.

The castle itself (which is really a Victorian manor home) has been in disrepair since a fire in 1977 caused extensive damage, and is still in a period of restoration. However, it was long before this in 1898 when the infamous Robert Scott worked as a head gamekeeper on the Margam grounds. While trying to catch a poacher, Scott was shot with a shotgun and left to die on the Margan grounds. Port Talbot’s Margam Castle. Its eerie atmosphere comes down to the location. The crumbling castle is perilously positioned on a cliff on the west coast of the Trotternish Peninsula in Skye. Crashing waves and often stormy skies make it a brilliant setting for all things spooky. The next morning, five maidservants were found dead in their beds there. A charcoal stove, left burning to speed the drying of the plaster, had asphyxiated them as they slept. Due to the number of unexplained paranormal phenomena on the property, Penyffordd Farm is considered not only one of the most haunted houses in Wales, but in the UK. In 1985 the castle sadly fell into neglect. The floors slowly fell through, the gardens overgrew, and the spirits were left alone. Nobody was there to hear the ghostly horse hooves treading the ground or see the dark shadows often seen. My personal experiences here

Castell Coch

Another ghost to haunt the old and, in parts, spooky property is that of woman who, although never seen, is both felt and heard by staff as she rustles invisibly past them, her progress marked by a distinct chill in the air. One ancient legend tells of the Castles cruel Norman overlord Earl Neville, imprisoning a young monk within the dungeons.

A medium, visiting the property in 1999, said that she sensed someone trying to evade capture in the wood. Where people begin to feel uneasy, she explained, was where his pursuers had spotted the fugitive. He made a desperate run for freedom, but was felled by a single bullet, at the spot where the sudden fear and coldness is most often felt.

Ghost-hunting thermal detectors have monitored activity, visitors have witnessed unexplained shadows and have felt colder especially around the stairs and in Mira Turner's old room.

Castell Coch located During the Civil War the castle was garrisoned by the Royalists, and saw much action in 1644 when it was captured by the Parliamentarians, re-taken by the Royalists, before falling once more to Cromwell’s forces.

Just outside Llantristant is the Royal Mint Experience, offering you the chance to go behind the scenes of this 1,000-year-old institution and learn about coins and more.
