About this deal

In addition to rediscovering the methods by which clothes were made in the past, the Bernadette Banner YouTube channel seeks to explore how we in the 21st century can learn from and adopt historical sewing techniques and attitudes towards dress in an effort to fight the effects of fast fashion and mass manufacture Bernadette Banner is a filmmaker and dress historian, best known for her YouTube channel documenting the exploration, reconstruction and interpretation of historical dress. Her work focuses on English and American dress predating the widespread use of the electric sewing machine, with a particular focus in the years of dress between 1890 - 1914; all reconstruction work is done by hand or with the use of period authentic machinery. I've also been uncomfortable with her attitude towards fast fashion. I completely agree that it's very harmful to the planet, but the one thing that people completely gloss over is that it's the only thing some people can afford. You can go on and on about how it's better to save up and buy better quality pieces that are easier on the environment, but at the end of the day many, many people don't have that option. Or can only do that with odd things here and there, not their entire wardrobe. It's especially infuriating seeing as it looks like she and her family have a *lot* of money. Especially since I imagine Bernadette banner herself would take strong issue with your dismissing a lesbian relationship so callously. In regards to why they'd buy the book in the first place, either they didn't and they're just trying to post their fake outrage.. or it's the same as the guys that send her creepy messages thinking she's some sort of conservative girl because of her style. They literally don't actually pay attention to her content, just view it very casually on occasion. Same as the people who are fans of Star Wars and the vast majority of sci-fi/ fantasy but are gatekeeping bigots to their fandoms Timberlake, Howard (2 December 2019). The ancient skill that could make you money. BBC Reel (Video feature). Partially narrated by Bernadette Banner. BBC . Retrieved 29 November 2020.

she is going to bump into Cathy at an event in the spring and it will be AWKWARD. Possibly cause drama on social media. Or she's just been so aloof and hard to be friends with nobody actually really knew her well enough to say what she was like. She strikes me as someone who doesn't make friends easily - especially with how much of a class 5 clinger she was to Cathy. totally agree with the ‘feigned ignorance’ vibe, it’s definitely wearing thin for me too. A good counterpoint to this is Rachel Maksy, who is super into vintage, yet completely aware of the current internet and memes, and is not afraid to include those out of concern for ruining the aesthetic At best, it's hypocrisy. At worst, it's her intentionally joking about a genocide and the victims, misrepresenting an oppressed people, etc so she could joke about the funny hat. Oh, and she's making money off it.

Learn the Historically Proven Stitches Every Seamster Needs with Beloved Historical Fashion YouTuber Bernadette Banner Um, what makes you think we're her core audience? She started as someone learning historical costuming, popularized it, she now caters to people who haven't touched a needle and want to see pretty dresses being made without too much boring technical stuff. Or just victwardian shenanigans. Pretty pictures, not research. I just opened YT to see that Bernadette has a new video on redesigning HR book covers. I haven't really watched her in at least a year, but I remember having a discussion about her doing this before. Afawk, she's not an HR reader and likely not hip on knowledge about the history of book covers and trends over the past 30 years.

Anyone who watches 10 minutes of her video is desperate to find out how an unemployed woman who takes on no sewing commissions can afford a Manhattan apartment. It is boring as hell for me. I would say, I wasted that time, except, I've knitted, so it was not completely lost... Anyhow, her statements are generally fine, except on the 1851 book, when she says, that it is high crinolin time, when crinolins were patented in the middle of the decade (so a few years later). But then again, we've already seen all this. Nothing new.Wait her facts are wrong, then it pointed to the viewer of her videos saying that it was not ment to be educational but entertainment and nothing more. Then why make such a video srsly. How has not a single fellow high schooler/university peer not broken the silence or shared *anything*??Tisch Drama Alumna Bernadette Banner Creates Online Business Studying Historical Dress". New York University. 27 February 2020. Archived from the original on 29 November 2020 . Retrieved 29 November 2020. The Christmas video has really thrown me! How can anyone, in this day and age claim to know nothing of Christmas and all it’s traditions?? I used to really enjoy her posts and her obvious talent, but to claim she has no knowledge when it is quite easy to google and find that she has a very privileged upbringing with her parents having an article in the New York Times boasting about the size of their closet and how most New York apartments would fit into said closet! Mother is successful real estate business owner and father a builder. Sister is also very successful with high powered job in NY! It is unfortunate that she has chosen to ‘act’ in this way as I can now only view her as a historical interpreter, not dissimilar to the Mrs Crocomb that she often raves about!
