About this deal

Shortly after she and her boys move into George's fancy mansion, though, she gets a bunch of flowers with a dire message. George claims they're from an ex-girlfriend who's now stalking him, but he's not forthcoming with details. Darcy is concerned that she's not getting the whole story, but she's reluctant to ask because, as it happens, she's got a few secrets she's not ready to share with George. This is exactly why you are in my top author Club K.L Slater and your book is one of the best psychological thrillers I have EVER READ!! Bring on the next one!!! I cannot wait!!! Here's to the next success 🥂 I am still processing the possibility that something like this could happen in real life, even though this book is fiction. That's a bitter pill to swallow AND that's just the beginning of the book!

So who is following Darcy, taking pictures and sending them to her? Is it "his" stalker .. or "her" stalker? Throw in Darcy's in-laws who hate the idea of her being with someone other than their son ... George's cook/maid/sometimes nanny ... or maybe a patient that has a grudge against the doctor? It could be anyone ... even someone closer. My world implodes when she tells me that she is my husband’s girlfriend, that the baby in her arms is his son, and that she owns our cherished family home. Single was a good read. Perfect for mystery fans. To say it had a bit of drama going on is putting it mildly! On top of this, more bad news. Her dad disappeared, and they found him at a bottom of a river. Her successful husband, Hugo, was having an affair with Sasyik (her colleague and friend) and is now pregnant and living in a beautiful countryside estate. The books main character is single mother Darcy and her life suddenly crashes when her son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground. Her sons limp lifeless body lies on the floor with Darcy feeling helpless only to be saved by George a local off duty doctor. When single mother Darcy’s son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, life stands still. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life. Darcy is a single mum, having lost her husband 4 years earlier. She has 2 boys and would do anything for them. One afternoon at the park one of her boys falls from the play equipment and George comes to the rescue. Gerorge is a doctor and also a single parent. The pair start dating and soon Darcy is moving in with George. Then the mystery parcelas ans letters start coming and George admits that his ex girlfriend is a bit unstable and is stalking him. But things are not adding up and Darcy begins to wonder who she can trust. When her life and that of her boy she is in danger she has to trust her gut. K. L. Slater's psychological thrillers published by Bookouture (Hachette) have now sold over TWO MILLION copies. If you have not read her books, you are missing out! Highly recommend!

Darcy doesn’t know who to trust, but she’s starting to suspect that, whatever the truth, she might have put her beloved boys into terrible danger… I don't think the Goodreads blurb accurately matches with the book. It makes it seem like the daughter being in danger was a more critical element to this story than it was. I kept waiting for the daughter to be kidnapped or directly threatened, but I don't recall thinking the daughter was in danger at any point. Also, from the blurb:

Advance Praise

In addition to writing, Slater also works as a part-time teacher. She teaches creative writing to children as well as adults in the academics and inner-city schools of Nottingham. Author Slater says that it was her decision to join the university in her forties for a creative writing course that gave her the confidence to pursue her dream of becoming an author. During the 5 years that she studied at the university, she also had a job that helped her to keep things going financially. The master’s course provided her the much-required space and time to try her hand at writing different genres of stories. It also increased her belief and confidence in writing. The first psychological thriller written by Slater, Safe With Me, took form when she was working on her dissertation during her English & Creative Writing degree at university in 2010. This was a well-written, fast-paced psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns to satisfy the reader. Very enjoyable read! I hated that it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex in his perfect new home with his perfect new girlfriend. But I knew it was the right thing to do.

Philippa Roberts, a famous bestselling author, disappears without a trace during a trip to accept a writing award. Philippa's colleague Eve follows a series of intricate clues in hopes of finding her. Why would someone harm Philippa? What motivated them? Money or jealousy? It was written very well as far as the characters. Even those with small roles. What I really dig is what I mentioned. Single is the ultimate psychological thriller because EVERYONE has a secret. And EVERYONE'S motives are questionable. And NOBODY is whom they appear to be. And finding out who is good and who is not will requite reading to the end. So, when she moves in Jennifer finds out that her marriage wasn’t as perfect as she thought it was and most of it was a lie and can’t understand why Sarah wants to move in. But Jennifer senses something is not right with Sarah and does her own investigation to find out what it is.

I was totally absorbed in this psychological offering. Characters are spot on, deftly defined. The story is cleverly crafted with twists and turns along the way with an unpredictable ending.
