About this deal

When Sunny Dae—self-proclaimed total nerd—meets Cirrus Soh, he can’t believe how cool and confident she is. So, Olive "Liv" Varanakis received a postcard from her father who's in Greece, it's about a documentary for his theory on the lost city of Atlantis. As they say themselves, they see themselves as social outcasts at school, which is only amplified by everyone ignoring them and the occasional jerk bullying them.

In addition to European settings and conflicted main characters, all of your books include a romantic plotline as well. I have no issue with skipping, DNFing, or avoiding the first book in a companion series in favor of book two if it still sounds up my alley.

When she isn’t writing girl abroad stories, Jenna can be found chasing her children or making elaborate messes in the kitchen. The way everything ties back to Atlantis works perfectly with the end message of the novel and it’s just so good and you need to read it now I am begging y’all. Seller has stated it will dispatch the item within 1 working day upon receipt of cleared payment - opens in a new window or tab . I want to say Liv is cool in a way I wish I had been as a teenager, but tbh, Liv is cool in a way I wish I was right now. Today I was so happy to have a distraction that I was more than willing to pretend that Maya didn’t have a raging crush on my boyfriend that had spanned a decade.

Greece is my number one dream destination, and just like with her two previous novels, I couldn’t resist googling each place Welch included in her story. Not only did this book have fantastical, exciting elements, but it also dealt with loss, grief, abandonment, mental health, and panic. The other characters were also all very lovable (except Dex) and I loved seeing Liv grow so much in just 10 days.

She then arrived in the beautiful country, reunited with her father, met new people, including his father's assistant, Theo, and most importantly, she discovered… a lot. Liv Varanakis doesn't have a lot of fond memories of her father, which makes sense--he fled to Greece when she was only eight. The sun dropped slowly, elegantly, like a lady sinking into a curtsy, getting redder and denser as it sank, inch by inch, into the ocean. Theo is eager and high-spirited and provides Liv with dozens of facts about olives (her actual name). The close quarters meant that I wasn't anticipating when Theo would be around again or how their relationship would progress because they had jumped like 10 whole relationship steps in the span of 5 pages. Her dad was so sweet and she was like, not acknowledging his efforts, but sometimes I get what she's feeling. I was especially impressed by the depth of the Atlantis theories throughout the book, which left me wanting to know more. The ending did make me feel emotional and I could see the outline of what was a beautiful story, however.I kept saying it was too painful to revisit, but, without my knowing, he showed my book to his publisher, who saw potential in it and made an offer. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. If you’re looking for another swoony, emotional story about a girl reconnecting with her long lost father, check out Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller.

Like I said, Liv and Theo were not great as actual characters, but they're too boring to talk about, so let's move on. I can think a couple about Theo and even a couple about Dax, but aside from Olive being “artistic”, what else is there? I don't know what it is with Jenna Welch and her flair for the dramatic, but I wasn't a huge fan of soap opera-esque reveals (I spotted the (view spoiler) [secretly dying dad looking for closure (hide spoiler)] a mile away, but the (view spoiler) [secret mental illness (hide spoiler)] was a surprise. Theo really grew on me by the end- even though it took some time for me to get past his forwardness 😂. Liv soon learns that her father has a chance to film a documentary about Atlantis for National Geographic, and he’s brought her to Greece to be his art director.I could go all day with what I had problem with or think could be better, finishing with the fact that the author thanked herself in the acknowledgment, but I think I said enough and just want to read another book instead of talking about this one. I loved how the romance was the subplot and how it focuses more on the Father - Daughter relationship. At first it was off putting because it made it a little too fantastical for me, but I ended up loving it!
