About this deal

Cold bridging is minimised thanks to a thermally efficient 7mm spiral shaft that has a cross sectional area just 10mm2. This small cross section reduces cold bridging by 75% when compared to a standard fixings of the same diameter. Mechanical fixings for insulated plasterboard are available in zinc-plated carbon steel. For improved thermal performance, and additional protection against corrosion, Thor Helical also supplies a stainless steel version. Stainless steel is 4 times less conductive than zinc plated carbon steel.

When it comes to attaching items to insulated plasterboard, Fisher stands out as another frequently relied upon brand. One prominent offering from Fisher is the Duopower fixing, a two-component material that excels in providing enhanced load capacities, particularly in hollow construction materials like thermal boards. If installing kitchen units, install a GTEC fixing channel or timber reinforcement at the height the wall and floor units need to be secured. If the skirting board will be placed after the process, ensure there is a solid line of the plaster where this will be fixed.

Use a hammer to gently tap the fixing into the drilled hole.

The unique dished head of these insulated plasterboard fixings effectively compresses the gyproc layer without damaging the paper surface. This creates a deep recess perfect for holding filler material securely. These fixings offer flexibility by working with 'dot and dab' adhesive (3 fixings per board) or can replace it entirely (12 fixings per board).

In summary, the most commonly utilized fixings for attaching insulated plasterboard to walls are the helical nails. For securing items onto insulated plasterboard, red or blue plastic plugs like Uno from Rawlplug are frequently employed. Next, use 32mm screws to fix the board in place. Make sure the intervals are 150 mm and 15 mm away from the edges. Continue fitting the boards in the same manner – cut them and fit them against the adjacent walls and the doorway. They are available in lengths: 65mm, 85mm, 105mm, 125mm and 145mm. Their typical pull-through strengths is 340N for 12.5mm Plasterboard bonded to PIR core and 255N for 9.5mm Plasterboard. Once the insulated ceiling board is attached, strengthen the joint by inserting plasterboard (drywall) screws on either side of the nails. This step pulls the insulated ceiling board as far up as possible. Use 10 screws per square metre. The second group of attachments serves for securing items onto thermal plasterboard, including various types of expansion plastic fixings like Uno by Rawlplug or Duopower by Fischer, as well as self-drive Panhead metal or Nylon fixings. String toggles are less commonly used as fixings for insulated plasterboard, as they require free space behind the surface of the plasterboard, which is not present in the insulated version. thespruce.com, Ruthie Darling, ‘How to Clean Walls Before Painting’, jpg, February 25, 2022, accessed September 3, 2022.

Use clout nails or screws to fix the insulated plasterboard to the ceiling. Make sure you fix the ceiling joists as your insulated plasterboards will not stay on if you don't. U-values are measured as the amount of heat loss through a 1m2 of material for every degree difference in temperature either side of the material. HOW TO CALCULATE U-VALUES You need to mark the position of each board on the wall. That way you will easily know where to stop with your adhesive. It is a good idea when you are laying boards in position before you apply an adhesive, to draw guidelines on the floor and ceiling. That way you can simply press the board into position up to your guidelines. The quality of the job done relies heavily on the adhesive you choose to use. Depending on the manufacturer you got around 90 min to play with before glue goes off.

If the existing ceiling is sagging, then attaching the insulated ceiling board directly onto the joists will eliminate sagging.

DISADVANTAGES: not use them to hang anything too heavy, impossible to remove without damaging plasterboard, needs a squeeze in the middle to get it through the hole When overboarding your ceiling with insulated plasterboards, ensure you get the right fixings to fix through the insulated plasterboards and the existing ceiling into your timber ceiling joists. Insulation fixings and screws are vital for ensuring each type of insulation is secured properly. Using the correct hardware will make sure everything from plasterboard to multifoil stays in place and doesn’t get damaged. precise diameter drilling required - otherwise they might rotate within the hole, limited weight, plastic product, 1 year warranty
