Mature themes in LEGO licenses isn't anything new, and Marvel is the least of our worries with it. Marvel usually does a good job cleaning things up when targeting a younger crowd.

Carnage is a spinoff of the Marvel villain Venom, who is a Spider-Man enemy that wears a living, symbiotic costume that Spider-Man himself once wore. While in prison, Venom's costume dropped an offspring that bonded with his roommate, a serial killer named Kletus Casady. So Carnage is approximately a much more violent version of Venom (and, in fact, the costume lives in his bloodstream, which is why it's red). Carnage recently had a significant event in the comics and will be the villain in the Venom 2 movie. It’s been that way since 1958. I don't really have an issue with a set based off of Carnage, but it certainly does raise some interesting thoughts about Lego's rules for what they make sets off of.

Carnage is usually a Spider-Man villain. Usually he is a symbiote that bonded to a serial killer named Cletus Cassidy, and basically is a MUCH more violent version of Venom. While Venom is often a villain, he also tends to have some anti-hero tendencies. Carnage on the other hand is completely violent and insane, wanting little more than to continue killing. He especially wants our favorite webslinger dead. Ghost Rider’s car measures over 1 in. (5 cm) high, 7 in. (19 cm) long and 2 in. (7 cm) wide and looks great on display in kids’ rooms.

Seriously, WTH happened to this company? They pull the Technic Osprey because it's a weapon of war, but are totally fine with this "thing"? I honestly don't understand their policy anymore.
