Almost a century later historians found records of an Aaron Kosminski, who was working in Whitechapel as a hairdresser at the time of the killings before being admitted to an asylum in 1891. I believe he has probably hit the nail on the head by going with Kosminski and he is not alone in choosing this suspect. He bought at auction a shawl that was supposed to have belonged to Catherine Eddowes, the 4th victim and had it extensively tested thru DNA to find out if the story connected with the shawl was true or not. There were several sightings of her over the course of the next five hour, and, by midnight, she had found her way to Berner Street, off Commercial Road.

I really enjoyed learning the fine details about DNA testing, tracing and the results and what they mean, it was explained well in simplistic terms. She appears to have enjoyed a cordial relationship with the other tenants, and the deputy keeper, Timothy Donovan, remembered her as being an inoffensive soul whose main weakness was a fondness for drink. The parts of the book that dealt with the DNA testing made my eyes glaze over as science has never been my forte in life and it was really complicated to fully understand. Also as many other reviewers have noted, he does spend some time throughout the book injecting his own life story into the book. It annoyed a great deal of people, and while I found it a little unsettling and unimportant at times, overall I will give him a pass as he felt his own stories made him more empathetic to the plight of the victims. At 5.30 that morning, Elizabeth Long saw her talking with a man outside number 29, in Hanbury Street, but, since there was nothing suspicious about the couple, she continued on her way, hardly taking any real notice. Finally, since Dr Louelainen was working in his own time and alone, we cannot, I'm afraid to say, rule out the possibility that he deliberately or accidentally contaminated the slides with modern DNA.
