Even at the lowest possible setting on the 0.5 watt setting sounds pretty darn good. This amp is easily enough for playing at bars and even small/medium sized halls.

Amplify Your External GearI bought this amp at the beginning of 2020 (so the beginning of the pandemic) since I needed an amp that I can use at home, without waking up my neighbors. Before purchasing this one, I tried other practice amps but I wasn't satisfied. After I bought this one, I ended up using it more than my Marshall and Fender amps!
It’s great for gigging thanks to its easy switching options, expandability and tonal customisation. It’s a brilliant practice amp thanks to its compact size, switchable power and versatile sound selection. Recording is a breeze thanks to extensive connectivity and top-notch effects. After that come the effects. There’s two buttons: ‘booster’ (overdrive/distortion) and ‘mod’ (modulation effects like chorus and flanger). The second set of buttons has an ‘FX’ and ‘delay’ section. These do exactly what they describe. The FX are effects, same with the mod knob. However, this includes more effects, like compressors and a second EQ section. It’s really really loud. Personally, I’ve been able to easily get over a loud drummer and bass player with a 4×15 cab at not even half the total volume. The Katana Range has become one of our firm favourite amps to suggest to bedroom players, gigging musicians, guitar teachers or guitarists of all levels, due to the sheer quality of its tone and versatility. The Katana 50 MK2 has become one of our Best-Selling amps from the range and here’s why. The next section has the presets, presence, master volume, cab resonance and power controls. The Katana 50 can save four presets plus a panel setting. All the other models include eight presets. The presets are divided over two banks.For optimal performance, stay up to date with the current Katana Mk II system software and BOSS Tone Studio The effects are, in a word, familiar – this is a Boss product and we all know what the trusty stompbox titan can do in that field. The pre-loaded selection covers all the basics, from three different boost voicings to a nice trio of reverbs, while the three ‘FX’ options are tremolo, octave down and a very cool envelope follower. There are still only three knobs in the effects section, but two of them now have concentric mini-knobs to allow for separate control of boost, modulation, delay, reverb and a miscellaneous fifth effect. Obviously, each dial can only control one parameter, but five buttons along the top let you switch between three different models for each effect type, and there’s a tap tempo button for the delay. Deeper control over the effects is possible, but requires external software; we’ll come to that in a moment. The MkII has a single custom-designed 12-inch speaker
With output set to 50 watts, a Telecaster on the clean setting floods the room with pure ‘valve amp’ tone. The low-end power and midrange clarity are truly impressive, even if the Katana-branded speaker wants for a little refinement in the top end. And there’s a fair bit of natural grit available, even without switching up to the crunch setting. The Boss Katana 50 MKII has a good amount of low end too, so it’s sometimes easy to forget that you’re only playing through a 1x12” combo amp. The amp feels and responds really well too - is it exactly the same as playing through a tube amp? Probably not, but it isn’t far off, plus you’ve got a lot of extra versatility here. Using dual-concentric knobs, similar to those featured on many of their stompboxes, Boss have drastically expanded the Katana’s effects capabilities. Rather than having 3 effects types at your disposal, you’ve now got 5. This means you can use 5 effects at once, right out the box.
The high-gain sounds are a little bit harder to tame though. For classic low-gain overdrive, I recommend not using the booster as it compresses and tightens the tone quite strong. The EQ is less important here. The Katana Artist is the flagship in the series. It’s got an improved 12 inch speaker, a hundred watts of power, and the buttons are on the front of the amp. It doesn't support a decent footswitch controller as its big brother 100W does. Therefore, turning on/off the effects can become really annoying, since you have to turn the knobs to (de)activate the effects. The Katana 50 is what we’ve been focusing on until now, but the other models are just as noteworthy.
