About this deal

The Mizuno Wave Inspire 17 was the first edition of the Inspire to use ENERZY foam in the midsole, and the Inspire 18 continues that tradition. The result is a softer, bouncier feeling than previous models. Maybe Mizuno could shed a few ounces here and there, but when it comes to stability running shoes, I want my designers to prioritize comfort and stability first, and a moderate weight will do just fine. Familiar Mizuno durability

Like most traditional stability running shoes, the plate works to mitigate the effects of overpronation. Runners who overpronate put more stress on the inside of their shoes, which can wear it down prematurely and lead to an uneven ride over time. The fit of the heel is incredibly important for overpronating runners; I’m one of them. I’ve been impressed since day one with just how comfortable and secure the heel collar is for the Wave Inspire 17s. The G3 compound used in the outsole saves weight over traditional rubber, and has been enhanced with a more durable G3-DR compound to keep it durable. As a result, it’s built to withstand plenty of mileage. Many popular running shoes are using softer foams now than they used to, and Mizuno is keeping with the trend. The U4IC cushioning above the wave plate has also been increased. While I appreciate the changes I can honestly say the ride was very similar to the last edition’s.While Japanese sporting goods company Mizuno might not have the name recognition as running brands like Nike and Adidas, it has been an influential shoe designer since the ‘80s. The plate is stiffer and more durable than the surrounding midsole foam, so it compresses less under your weight. That extra durability helps the midsole wear evenly, giving you a more stable ride throughout the life of the shoe.

Like previous versions, the foams are cut into an asymmetrical wave shape, which causes the midsole to resist bending laterally. When you land, that stiffness helps counter overpronation in your stride. At the same time, the wave shape allows the shoe to flex from heel to toe, so it moves with your foot and promotes smooth transitions from landing to toe-off.

You will find overlays in the midfoot on both the medial and lateral sides to improve the fit of the Wave Inspire. These along with the double-layered mesh of the upper make the Wave Inspire a snug fit. I loved this shoe. It met and exceeded all of my expectations. At first, I was a bit concerned about the stiff forefoot, but in the long run (pun intended), the Inspire felt perfectly supportive and I had no issues with hot spots or numbness in my toes. I most liked the snug fit of the heel cup, the secure and supportive—but not too tight—upper around the midfoot, and the wide toebox. I have a wide forefoot and I am always happiest with extra room. Due to the Inspire’s ample cushioning and support, it is perfect for ‘Church of the Sunday Long Run.’ But, because of its heavier weight, I would not recommend this shoe for speedwork or racing.” This works well in the heel area because you need to be securely held to add to the stability of the shoe. This is Mizuno’s 18th variation of their classic stability training shoe. It makes its debut with some updates but stays true to its original design.
