The watch itself has two buttons — one a digital crown — and comes with a nylon band that's a little narrow when sliding my fist through it. Most runners have strong opinions about crowns and nylon straps, so that could influence your opinion. The Cheetah Square is certainly thin and light – tipping the scales at just 25g, and measures 9.9mm. That’s 22% lighter than the standard Cheetah, and it’s super light on the wrist. It does include additional modes like a battery saver mode that gives you up to 24 days and a basic watch mode that gives you 45 days.
Always-on Display: When the screen is illuminated, it displays system content. When the screen is in standby mode, it displays the time. This function requires users to manually set "Always-on Display". The user can switch on or off this feature through the watch or Zepp App. Indoor positioning services are not supported. Positioning speed and accuracy may be affected by the surrounding environment. The number of satellites connected to simultaneously, and specific satellite connections, may depend on your location. But rewinding even further, some history first: Amazfit is a Chinese brand established in 2015 with very very limited presence in North America. Most of their smartwatches are a little more “lifestyle” focused. Think: cheaper Fitbit. The Amazfit Cheetah Square has a relatively small 285mAh battery, but does a good job at staying the distance for a watch that's so thin. The Amazfit Cheetah comes in two versions - round and square. Overall, I found that Amazfit overestimated my training load compared to Garmin, but this is in part because of a shorter sample load of data and because I started running with it when I was "overtraining" according to Garmin, making me look less fit to Zepp's algorithms. There’s also Alexa on the wrist. Despite being an Alexa household, I’ve never had cause to want to use it on a smartwatch – but it’s on board here if you like that kind of thing. However, we had issues getting Alexa to connect. Amazfit has announced the new Cheetah series under its Performance lineup. In terms of 24/7 and resting heart rate, the numbers held up. We saw resting heart rate ranges during sleep in the same ballpark as our established baselines in Whoop 4.0 and other smartwatches. And let's not forget, it's in the same zone as the Apple Watch SE– which is no slouch when it comes to running and fitness prowess.

We also found both the touchscreen and the buttons (which include a rotating bevel, oddly similar to much of the Coros line) to be slightly inconsistent—functioning most of the time, but not always. And after only a few ocean swims (with the recommended fresh water flushing), we had some rough play in the rotating bevel, though it still worked. The maximum storage space for music is 2.3GB (due to the system space occupied, the actual space used by the user may be less than 2.3GB); based on 5-10MB per song, it can store up to 270-470 MP3 songs. The watch has no built-in speaker, so connect via Bluetooth to your TWS earbuds to listen to music. In some countries, the Zepp Coach will come with an AI Chat chatbot for a short demo before it becomes a subscription-based service. It uses generative AI and applied large language model (LLM) to recognize the user's natural language descriptions via voice or typed commands to deliver easy-to-understand answers to their sports-related questions. Amazfit says, "It's just like being in a one-on-one coaching session with a real human personal trainer."
Now, not everything is executed perfectly (or even well), but there are literally so many sports and everyday “lifestyle” features on this watch—with limited documentation and iffy on-watch navigation—it’s actually difficult to find or use them all. It’s a nice weight too, coming in at just 34g without the strap and 43g with it. The strap is a perfectly comfortable nylon one that, while isn’t the best in class nylon strap I’ve used, hasn’t caused any sort of irritation during runs and can also be easily removed.
