About this deal

It would have been far more enjoyable sold piecewise if the collection as a whole didn't have anything to offer on top of the games. Because there are so few situations where you'd want anything but full pressure, all Nintendo’s done is map the running and standing water controls to the R and ZR buttons. Gently shake a Joy-Con controller to activate Mario's Spin ability or pass a Joy-Con controller to a friend for some extra help in Co-Star Mode*.

The games haven't been fully remastered but simply optimised for the new console with higher resolutions, new screen ratios and added Joy-Con support. We now live in an era where the Sega Ages collection regularly gives you a wide range of options and different versions of each game, sometimes even new versions that fans have never played before. but with something as big as that you'd expect it to have been announced during the official reveal, "coming later" kinda thing. I predict Nintendo will re-release Galaxy 2 next year as a standalone download or physical version, with updated hi-res graphics, and maybe as an exclusive to the "Switch Pro" console they are working on. Disappointing for some, but Nintendo have already sold tons of copies anyway so I guess why should they bother putting any effort into this?

The GameCube version can be patched to run at 16:9 and you can also customise the controls via Gekko codes. We may have already known about it for ages, but Nintendo finally officially confirmed that Super Mario 3D All-Stars is real. I never played Sunshine or Galaxy and over the last couple of years I've worked hard to reduce/eliminate the video game graveyard of never used anymore crap/junk. But, now Halo 3 sticks out like a sore thumb since it did not get a remake treatment like the first games in the package. You're arguing that they don't release loads of re-releases to not oversaturate the market, during a gen they have re-released almost their entire last gen catalogue.Super Mario 3D All-Stars bundles together three of Mario’s most iconic three-dimensional adventures: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. The motion controls are still there too, in case you want a bit of Wiimote nostalgia, but for those who didn’t like gesturing to attack, you can rest easy in the knowledge that you no longer have to. IGN 's Zachary Ryan was "a little bit disappointed in the lack of effort Nintendo has put into" the collection, when compared to the "major overhauls" done for the games in Super Mario All-Stars, and noted the use of emulation to present the three games helped explain "a lot about the lack of upgrades" in each. Doesn't change the fact the bad business practices of the 90s did irreversible damage to the industry.

As a collection then yes it would definitely score lower, even comparing it to something like the Castlevania collection its lacking somewhat. One addition that’s certainly more positive, though, is that Nintendo has also taken the action of flicking the Wii Remote and mapped it to the Y button. Super Mario 3D All-Stars Announced for Switch, Includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy". But, the lack of bonuses like art galleries or developer interviews (even old ones lifted out of Nintendo Power) is very disappointing. The un-reversed camera controls means that it is Stick-up and the camera is going up, stick-down and the camera is going down? Not to mention some of the work-arounds Nintendo used for these games are baffling and not very polished, such as the Sunshine tutorial removing voice clips of Fludd for buttons which are not used, and the lack of analogue pressure in Sunshine.

I also know this might sound like I'm praising nintendo for no reason when I really don't think they did this game right. Ian Walker from Kotaku said the port of 64 "hasn't introduced any obviously unfortunate consequences" and even fixed some "occasional performance dips" from the original, and that the controls for the game worked well on the Switch. I could see Nintendo remaking one of them (probably Sunshine or 64), but all three for a single package? dollars each for the games in this collection, emulated or not, is fine for one such as me who can't wait to finally get the chance to play Sunshine on what is becoming my favorite system ever. It aged well yes and is fun with simple gameplay but the most objectively perfect one is galaxy 2 with my favorite being galaxy 1.It's great that these games are now conveniently available on Switch, but they didn't need to figure out how to make Yoshi work to include "Galaxy 2" just to pander to the foolish gamers out there. We all have to admit that although the games are great, these are very lazy ports and a disappointing collection that excludes Super Mario Galaxy 2. I have been preferring digital purchases but went physical since it'll be out of print after March 2021.
