The estate was used for exterior shooting in the 1961 film, The Innocents, where it served as the Gothic Bly Manor, the setting of the Henry James novella, The Turn of the Screw. [13] See also [ edit ] Situated in the locomotive shed on platform 1 , SteamWorks! uses touchscreen displays, information boards, and interactive elements to bring the science and mechanics of steam to life. The star of the show is an interactive model of a locomotive. Based on our very own Terrier Class locomotive ‘Stepney’ (as featured in the Thomas the Tank Engine book series), this special ‘engine’ features a display showing how the engine’s boiler works, and, as an added bonus, a special driving experience simulator in the cab enables you to experience what it’s like to drive Stepney on the Bluebell Railway! In 2005, education programmes undertaken by schools on the estate, were presented to the House of Commons, Education and Skills Committee, by the organisation Education Outside the Classroom. As well as providing a 'green lung' in this built up area and catering for general amenity, the gardens have outstanding plant collections, making them a centre for horticultural excellence and providing educational opportunities. The project was a partnership between us and Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust, Friends of the Botanical Gardens, Sheffield Town Trust and The University of Sheffield. Park playgrounds Often regarded as Brown's successor, there is a surviving sketch by Humphry Repton of the park, however Repton's letters record that he did not formally deliver suggestions in one his 'Red Books. [1] Nevertheless, according to Edward Hyams, Repton undertook work in the park in 1789. Sheffield Park and Garden is an informal landscape garden five miles east of Haywards Heath, in East Sussex, England. It was originally laid out in the 18th century by Capability Brown, and further developed as a woodland garden in the early 20th century by its then owner, Arthur Gilstrap Soames. It is now owned by the National Trust. According to the Sussex Express, by 1885 the area to the north of the lower lake was being remodelled with the inclusion of exotic and native trees. [7]

Located on Platform 2, the Bullied Society Shop sells used railway and transport books, magazines, railway memorabilia, railway photographs, DVDs and videos, timetables and models. Probably the most impressive time to visit is the displays of Autumn colours through the park. This really is a sight not to be missed – walking along the pathways admiring the seasonal colours of the trees and plants. Valigorsky, Jon (1990). The estate is first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it is listed as part of the 'rape of Pevensey', an area given by William the Conqueror to his half-brother, Robert, Count of Mortain. In August 1538, Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk, entertained King Henry VIII here. [1] Lower Woman's Way Pond Sheffield Park is a really spectacular place to visit and there are many footpaths in the acres of landscaped gardens and picturesque lakes and bridges to cross. There are many winding paths to take and is perfect on a sunny day to enjoy the abundance of flowers and quiet spaces to enjoy a picnic. You can also visit the parkland for a natural play trail to keep the kids entertained and the paths are also buggy and wheelchair friendly. Hyams, Edward (1971). Capability Brown and Humphry Repton. Scribner. p.140. ISBN 978-0-684-10273-3. Disabled toilet and baby changing facilities are available on platform 1, in the Bessemer Arms or on platform 2 next to the museum.
