About this deal

Once Bluetooth devices are paired, there is no need to pair them again, except in the following cases: We found the WF-C700N (left) more comfortable than Sony's more premium WF-1000XM4 (right). (Image credit: Future) All of these earbuds have some sonic appeal, but there are clear performance differences throughout the range. Under the “Automatic Switching at My Place” heading, select the cog icon, then on the next screen register a location. Your headphones will detect where you are, and the next time you are at your registered location, they will activate Noise Cancelling and other features based on previous experience.

Connect your headphones and computer via Bluetooth®. For how to pair them, refer to the Help Guide of your headphones. Coming from the same manufacturer, it's no surprise that both sets of buds are practically the same in how they look and feel, although there are some key differences. The WF-C500 are slightly larger than their newer stablemates, the later model using Sony's 5mm driver compared with the C500's larger 5.8mm counterpart. As noted, Sony's excellent Headphones Connect app takes the wheel here. It's very good. Why? Adaptive Sound Control, optimized according to what you're doing, that's why –yes, these headphones learn how you use them and try to help. Don't like that it deploys ANC when it knows you're 'Staying'? That's fine, tap the cog in the app's Headphone Settings and you can deploy Ambient sound or turn all noise profiles off –and until you change it, that'll happen whenever you're sitting at your desk. Did I mention that the build quality and battery life are bang-on too? There's less protrusion than with Sony's more affordable buds ( Sony WF-C500, all eyes on you), because they're37% lighter and 38% smaller than the top-tier WF-1000XM4 . Sony WF-C700N review What Hi-Fi? Awards 2023 winner. Sony’s wireless earbuds combine comfort, ANC and sensational sound qualityThe C500 (the dear old nanna in this scenario) offer phenomenal value for money, providing more features and far better audio fidelity at the price than almost any other rival on the market today. They're also so well made they'll probably continue giving you that same great sound decades from now. My other grumble relates to the WF-C700N’s battery life. Seven-and-a-half hours of in-ear stamina is ample, but total playtime of around fifteen hours is below average and means you’ll need to top up the charging case more frequently than you might like. That didn’t detract too much from my overall experience but may prove a deal breaker for those wanting buds capable of lasting a couple of weeks without needing a top up. As mentioned, you get what you pay for in Sony's lineup of true wireless earphones. Yes, they all share the advantage of a comprehensive companion app with EQ, but that's about where the similarities end. When Ambient is deployed, you can select from 1-20 on a slider (I keep mine at around 12 when 'Walking' to my train and 20 when 'Running') and these work very well indeed. When ANC is on, at my desk, all but the loudest noises are softened, leaving me immersed in my playlists. It's a feat and no mistake. Connect your headphones to two Bluetooth® devices simultaneously, so you can wait for an incoming call on one device while listening to music on the other.

The WF-C700N (left) offer a clear jump in sound quality over their cheaper siblings, the WF-C500 (right). (Image credit: Future) Switch to Beethoven's Symphony No.5 in C Minor by Herbert von Karajan and the Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Sonys nail the piece’s dramatic opening. The highs and lows, the string section’s descent into quiet troughs from where they rise into a stirring crescendo are all handled deftly. It requires solid timing and great organisation and the Sonys pass the test with flying colours. Impressive at this level. Enjoy up to 15 hours * of listening thanks to the handy charging case – get 7.5 hours from the earbuds and another 7.5 hours using the charging case.Sound can only travel if there is a medium to transport it, such as air, water, glass, or metal. If you stand in an empty room with a speaker playing music, you will hear the music. However, if the air from this room is removed, the speaker will still function, but you won't hear any sound as there's no medium to transport the sound waves. Our own voice comes through sounding natural, and clear. During testing, we had to compete with the occasional gust of wind but it didn’t seem to affect the clarity of our conversations. In fact, compared to something like the JBL Live Pro 2 TWS, our voices sound more refined and more dynamic coming through the Sonys. Different pitch levels. Noise cancelling works best when the ambient noise is low or medium in pitch and remains constant. For example, an airplane engine produces a low-pitched, constant sound, meaning that the level of sound you hear remains consistent. Conversely, when someone speaks, sound waves scatter based on the volume and energy created by every word. Unlike a plane engine, speaking pitch changes frequently. That is why you might hear someone talking next to you.

If [ WF-C700N] does not appear on your computer screen, try again from “To connect without using the Swift Pair function” of step . If the prices above made you double-take, well done you. Yes, Sony has challenged in this territory before, (see the sporty IP55-rated Sony WF-SP800N which feature a degree of noise-cancellation, or the budget friendly Sony WF-C500, if you can live without ANC) but never with quite this level of skill and accomplishment. These affordable in-ears sit right between the entry-level WF-C500, and the premium WF-1000XM4. And if they can justify their position they could very well be the sweet spot for anyone looking to dip their toe (or should that be ear?) into the world of noise-cancelling wireless earbuds. Price Of course, your typical listening volume and codec choice will affect your real-world results. Out of the three, only the case for the XM5 supports wireless charging.Clean your earbuds often to keep them in optimal condition. If the outside of the headset or the charging case get dirty, wipe them clean with a soft dry cloth. The multi-function button on the WF-C700N beats any capacitive touch option I've tried.
