About this deal

A video game version was being developed by Vivendi Games for the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade, but was cancelled due to "unforeseen difficulties". [1] Reception [ edit ] Some tiles have walls along one or more edges. When players add tiles to their Alhambra, it must be possible to "walk" from the new tile to their starting fountain, i.e. it must be possible to trace a path from the fountain to the new tile while remaining within tiles and without crossing through any walls. It is also not permitted to create "holes" such that all four sides of a gap are closed in. While it is your turn no new tiles are placed on the building market. It is only at the end of your turn that the empty squares are refilled with new tiles. It is therefore possible to carry out a maximum of 5 actions during your turn (paying the exact amount four times and then either taking money or redesigning your Alhambra). Positioning the tiles As well as points for buildings, players are also awarded points for the longest joined wall around their Alhambras. Each side of a tile with a wall segment on it counts for 1 point. Each building tile must be accessible “on foot” from the starting tile without crossing a wall and without going off the tiles.

The remaining building tiles from the building market are given to the players who have the most money of the respective currency in their hand. If two or more players have the same amount of money then that building tile remains on the building market.

Zatu has an excellent range of games and for most of them the best prices too. Delivery is always fast and I have never received a game in bad condition. 10/10 would recommend.

Personally, there are certain modules that I would always include like Change and The Workers Huts. These are easy to understand, simple to set-up and don’t really impact on game length. On top of these, it’s probably worth adding a further three or four modules. Any more than that and the game becomes over-complicated and unwieldy. As a player who looks for an immersive theme that contributes well to game play, Alhambra leaves me wanting here. The theme is definitely pasted on, as I could very well be constructing a space station or a yacht or a modern city (in fact, Manhattan is a re-theming and re-release of Alhambra). The theme doesn’t add to the game play, nor does it distract from it: it’s just there. Finally, 4 more money cards are laid face-up in the middle of the table next to the building market. Final Score: 3.5 Stars – A decent tile-laying game that will appeal to both newcomers to the hobby and hardcore gamers looking for lighter fare. The 3rd round of scoring takes place at the end of the game; points are then also awarded to the players with the third highest number of buildings of each kind as shown in the example and on the points table on the tile reserve board.Take care: building tiles on the reserve boards are NOT counted towards players' scores. Points for the wall around your Alhambra You can exchange a building tile on your reserve board for one in your Alhambra. If you do this the new building tile in your Alhambra must go in exactly the same place as the one you remove. More points are awarded in each scoring round. The winner is the player who has been awarded the most points by the end of the game. Category Board Games Tags Alhambra, Dirk Henn, Queen Games, Spiel des Jahres SKU ZBG-QUE60373 Availability

Each of the twenty modules is completely standalone, so they can be mixed and matched however you want. You don’t have to use any of them and, in theory, you could try and use them all. But you won’t! Should you add this to your collection? Sure. Alhambra is a decent game for newcomers and casual gamers because of all the reasons listed above. If you find your game nights skew more towards Le Havre and Dungeon Lords, Alhambra may not necessarily be for you, but you may find it worthwhile to hold onto for nights when you have rookies and non-gamer family over. Each new tile must be joined to your Alhambra by at least one side (i.e. it cannot be joined just at a corner). You get the original Alhambra plus five expansions, each of which has four different modules. So that’s a light to medium weight game plus twenty extra modules. Expansions Included:Alhambra: The Vizier's Favor, Alhambra: The City Gates, Alhambra: The Thief's Turn, Alhambra: The Treasure Chamber, Alhambra: Power of the Sultan. Then put the piles on top on one another again with the fifth pile on the bottom, then the fourth, the third, the second and finally the first at the very top. The whole pile is then placed face-down next to the building market.

All building tiles must be the same way round as your starting tile (i.e. all roofs must point upwards).

Object of the Game

In each case, the player with the most buildings is awarded the points for 1st place indicated on the scoring card next to the name of the building. Only the players with the most buildings of each kind receive points when the "1st Scoring Round" card is drawn. Points are awarded in the later rounds as follows: in the "2nd Scoring Round" (which takes place when the "2nd Scoring Round" card is drawn), points are awarded to the players with the highest number and second highest number of building tiles of each kind. If several players tie, the points for the respective places are shared. Points are always rounded down. The Camps introduces eight camp tiles, which are bought as with other buildings. However, camps must be separated from the city by a wall, and may not be adjacent to each other if there is a wall in the way. Camps score points for every building tile in the direction of its walls. My recommendation would be to try all of the modules by playing each of the five expansions separately. That way you can see how each module works and which ones appeal to you and/or your playing partners most. Then whenever you play you can take it in turns to select your own personal favourites.
