About this deal

All of our waterproof products, following their manufacture, are treated with a waterproof coating on the outside of the garment. This feature is in addition to the Gore-Tex or AQ waterproof membrane inside the garment. To answer the question regarding the acronym RET and the unit of measure….RET is the resistance to evaporative heat loss meaning the lower the number the more breathable a fabric is.

AT Fibre Fill - High loft insulation filling that offers an excellent warmth to weight ratio and a low water absorption level. There are many different tests for breathability of a fabric. Several test methods will give results in g/m²/24hours (I’m not sure which method the customer is referring to) whereas RET, which is the standard test used by Gore-Tex, gives results in m²Pa/W. The fact that it isn’t totally waterproof, although very nearly so, isn’t really a minus point. There are ways to get around this and you would have to be caught in a wild tropical storm or fall into a river to get the inside wet…and we don’t really want to be doing that do we?AT Optic - Combine the thermal insulation and pill resistance of a good mid-weight fleece fabric but with a unique look to ensure they look as good as they perform. Our garments should not be dry cleaned. The outer layer of all our waterproofs are treated with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish which causes water droplets to bead and run off the garment. The waterproof coating acts as a shield towards wet weather, and allows the water to simply bead off the garment. If this waterproof coating has faded away over time, the water that gets on to the garment will not bead off as easily and will build up. This means that there is an extra coating of water on the outside of the garment, which inhibits the breathability and does not allow warm air and condensation on the inside of the garment to escape. This can result in what appears to be a leaking product, when in fact the build up of moisture on the inside is warm air and condensation that cannot escape. The reason why we have stitch through baffles in the other areas is to reduce bulk and to deliver warmth where you really need it and save weight in areas where you don’t need the extra warmth. This has come from extensive thermal body mapping.

PFOA is used as an ingredient in the production of water-proof membranes and may be present at very low, trace levels in finished products. PFOA is also formed in trace quantities as a by-product in the production of the chemicals we use as a water-proof fabric finish. Therefore, in line with most high performance water-proof and water-repellent garments, there is a theoretical chance of PFOA being detected at very low, trace levels on our products. There are Four accessory attachment points with bungee cord so you can carry your canteen and walking poles with ease. Carry your canteen, walking pole, or any other accessory on one of the four attachment points (complete with bungee cord) Unfortunately none of these tests correlate with each other and in fact different fabrics types appear to perform better on different tests so they are not interchangeable. As the fabric in question is Gore-Tex Pro we can only provide data using RET as this is the standard test Gore-Tex use for their fabrics (Gore may be able to supply more data). However to speak in general terms you would normally expect most fabrics with a RET of 6 m²Pa/W to have an Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate of well over 20,000 g/m²/24hours when tested using the most commonly known MVTR test method (Inverted cup B1 method). There are many different tests for breathability of a fabric. Several test methods will give results in g/m²/24hours whereas RET, which is the standard test used by Gore-Tex, gives results in m²Pa/W. Unfortunately none of these tests correlate with each other and in fact different fabrics types appear to perform better on different tests so they are not interchangeable.RET is the resistance to evaporative heat loss meaning the lower the number the more breathable a fabric is. During the test a fabric is placed on a ‘sweating guarded hot plate’ (a porous hot plate with water channelled through it) and the required energy to keep this plate at a constant temperature is measured in m²Pa/W (area[m²] Pressure[Pa] / energy[W]) When stopping in the outdoors after a strenuous uphill section, the continued cooling effect on the skin through sweat evaporating and conducted heat loss, will cause excessive cooling and resulting in discomfort. Now suppose that an exposed ridge has been reached and the cold biting wind adds to the cooling effect and suddenly we have a dangerous situation. Moving the sweat off the skin does not stop the cooling effect. Excessive heat will still evaporate the sweat but on the surface of the base layer not the skin. Heat loss through conduction (water/sweat) is a very good conductor of heat) is reduced considerably though, as the sweat is only on the skin for a short time. Latest 'Munro II' model in a new colour for urban environments, Counter Terror, Police and other civil defence users.

Advanced Thermals: Fleece fabrics developed exclusively for Berghaus ensuring excellent thermal insulation properties, pilling resistance and great styling. Lightweight but tough – the face fabric is remarkably light yet twice as durable as any other competitor. Some of the items we sell are age restricted by law. These are identified as such within the item descriptions. Berghaus recommend that you machine wash your item at 30 degrees Celsius and use soap powder or liquid with no fabric softeners or conditioners. For stubborn grease and dirt use non biological detergent with no softeners or conditioners. The garment should be air dried or if the care label allows tumble dried at a low heat setting.Buyers who make false age declarations are obtaining goods through deceit and will be subject to legal proceedings. AT Windproof - Highly breathable, and windproof which ensures the garment will keep you warm on even the windiest of days. The fabric has a non-pilling face to ensure its performance and looks are retained after repeated home washing. It’s not totally waterproof, but it does a great job of keeping water out such is the strength of the Ardura 1000D, but if you’re worried about your contents getting wet, just get a waterproof inner liner bag to further protect your goods. They’re pretty cheap to buy.

Hip Belt: As the hip belt sits higher on women we have altered the cut in two ways. First, the overall height of the hip belt needs to be reduced to prevent it from digging under the rib cage (or diaphragm). Secondly, we have developed a customised fit on the bottom of the hip fin to sit more comfortably on the hips.Benefit: Reduces clamminess and chilling effect associated with active exertion, to maintain user comfort. Berghaus is committed to being a responsible business, and we give our designers and suppliers the guidance they need to avoid the use of any potentially harmful substances. Compliance with our restricted substances policy, and relevant laws and regulations, is a condition of business with suppliers. Two Layer: This consists of the outer face fabric with a waterproof coating or laminate on the inside. To help protect the laminate or coating on the inside of the face fabric, a loose nylon lining is inserted inside the garment. We use a water repellent mesh lining with full nylon in the arms and waist area to avoid snagging from rings, watches and belts etc.
