About this deal

As a small minus point, only the mounting strap has to be mentioned, since it deviates optically from the pattern and color. I'll discuss this further in a later point. The KEEN Ranger PT will operate indefinitely when the solar panel is connected. However, you can also install it without the solar panel if you want. The 6,000mAh battery will last for around 1-4 weeks, depending on how often it’s triggered. After that, you’ll have to take it down and charge it via USB. In our experience, the trigger speeds can vary depending on the size of the animal, and are slower than many high-end trail cameras - though still fast enough to detect reliably. Night recordings are illuminated using no-glow LEDs which are invisible to humans, minimising the risk of detection. It has no-glow LEDs with a flash range of 33ft. The camera also supports Reolink’s cloud storage. You can get 1GB of storage for free, and videos will be saved for 7 days before being automatically deleted. You can also sign up for a paid plan to get a higher storage limit. This same technology can also be applied to trail cameras. You can set up a solar camera and leave it running for months or even years. You don’t have to go out and change batteries, or mess around with expensive hardwired installations.

Our PIR motion sensor is more sensitive to side-to-side movement than movement heading straight toward the camera. If you just receive your new camera and are not familiar with the camera, you can have a look at the below video about the unboxing, setup, and installation of the camera. To return to the point „human“, I am convinced that the camera can be used incredibly well, due to its camouflage thus for monitoring the property. The Reolink Keen is a 2K camera. It records video at a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (1440p) with a frame rate (FPS) of 15.

Of course, this affected data consumption when watching as well as power consumption, among other things. You’ll also have to install the Reolink app on your smartphone. Pair your phone with the camera, and you’ll be able to access all the monitoring and control features. All the Reolink battery-powered cameras detect motions based on the PIR motion sensor. The PIR sensor (passive infrared sensor) detects changes in the amount of infrared radiation impinging upon it, which varies depending on the temperature and surface characteristics of the objects in front of the sensor. Therefore, the installation of your camera matters a lot. This is all great news on a trail cam. But what if you want the widest possible field of view? In that case, consider the Reolink Duo. It’s a unique camera with dual 2K lenses that provide ultra-wide video. That said. It requires PoE power, so it’s only suitable for applications where hardwiring is practical. In advance of my summary, it must be mentioned that I have never used a trail camera before. I can therefore neither give a comparison to other trail cameras nor speak from experience. My summary is therefore based only on my current test.It would also be nice to have such an attachment strap for the solar panel in addition to the one that comes with the camera. In addition, the KEEN Ranger PT trail camera boasts 4MP super HD image quality to capture every detail vividly day and night. Another feature is supposed to be GPS. However, this feature was not yet implemented in the software due to my early version.

In general, a positive trend can be seen in terms of usage and charging when used with the solar panel. The solar panel is perfectly enough to power the camera and recharge the battery. Unfortunately, the KEEN Ranger PT uses Micro USB rather that USB Type-C. It’s not that big of deal, but USB-C is always preferred. The KEEN Ranger PT comes with a solar power, so you can keep the internal battery charged when its mounted in the field. This solar panel has a 4m cable so it can be mounted some distance from the camera, and if there is very poor light in the area the camera can last several weeks on a full charge - though this is variable depending on how active the camera is. But for most people, they simply weren’t practical. They needed to be hardwired, and you needed a dedicated TV and VCR for monitoring and recording. Most importantly, you couldn’t monitor them remotely. At best, you’d come home to a grainy video of your house getting robbed. However, trail cams can also be used for simple observation. If you think there might be bears in your woods, how cool would it be to get a picture? If this sounds appealing to you but you’re really looking for a home camera, there are options. The Reolink Go PT Plus is similar in most respects, right down to the form factor. However, it has a plain white housing, which is more suitable for residential use. The camera is camouflaged to minimise detection and it comes supplied with a strap so you can easily set it up on a tree or post at the desired spot. The camera body is also IP64 rated, meaning it is fully weatherproof.
