About this deal

The writing is fluid and descriptive which helps readers envision the scenes without disrupting or slowing the flow. However, a few of the scenes are somewhat graphic. Despite Nate’s part of the story having a lot of suspense and action, it seemed to detract from the main story line for me. There was a strong sense of place causing me to feel as though I was living the events alongside the characters. The final action scene is somewhat over-the-top. Themes include violence, murder, theft, assault, Germany in 1937 and later, and much more. All the way through, Hope has been a series that’s visually led, with Jimmy’s artwork essential in setting the mood and the tone for a series that is, frankly, all about the mood and the tone.

She learns that during World War II several Wyoming soldiers were in the group that fought to Hitler's Eagles Nest retreat in the Alps - and one of them took Hitler's personal photo album. Did another take this one and keep it all these years? When she finds the name of a deceased local man who was likely in the unit, Joe visits the man's son - only to find him brutally tortured and murdered. Someone is after the photo album - but why? And when a close neighbor is murdered, Joe and Marybeth face a new question: How will they figure out the book's mystery before someone hurts them...or their girls? Yes. They’re always moving. Walking fast, talking loud, waving their arms around. They don’t like to sit still ever. They’re all like that. I don’t understand why they’re all so fat, the way they move around.” A damp cloth and warm water should be enough. Although reels are designed to be as watertight as possible, keep their exposure minimal, as any that gets inside will rinse lubricants from the reel. An old toothbrush can be useful too. With so much on his mind that morning, he was grateful for the distraction when Lorne shambled out of his old house and waved hello. Joe pulled into the overgrown ranch yard and parked next to a muddy ATV bristling with irrigation shovels strapped down by bungee cords. The butt end of a lever-action carbine poked out of a leather saddle scabbard. Was the idea to include familiar faces and real-world characters something that was script based or was it more a case of it coming out in the discussions between you both? Joe didn't think it was the right time and occasion to defend himself, so he bit his tongue. Since he'd been assigned to the Saddlestring District nearly twenty years before, there had been exactly one good sheriff who'd done his job well: Mike Reed. He'd also been Joe's friend. All the other county sheriffs had been corrupt, incompetent, or both. The last one, Brendan Kapelow, had falsified his résumé and vanished when the lie was discovered. So of course Joe had involved himself in investigations even though he often wasn't wanted. Oh I know, the number of comics I see where the authors forget that basic concept of comics being a visual storytelling medium! She learns that during World War II, several Wyoming soldiers were in the group that fought to Hitler’s Eagles Nest retreat in the Alps—and one of them took the Fuhrer’s personal photo album. Did another take this one and keep it all these years? When a close neighbor is murdered, Joe and Marybeth face new questions: Who is after the book? And how will they solve its mystery before someone hurts them…or their girls? The name of the ranch had nothing to do with the ownership or history of the place. "Crazy Z-Bar" was just a description of the brand used on its cattle: the letter Z tilted forty-five degrees to the left over a single line.

There were also many political references in Nate's storyline that I felt were unnecessary. I found myself skimming, which I have never done with any of the other books in the series. GA: I sort of agree! Strictly speaking you’re cinematographer I’d say. You’re lining up the camera, getting the coverage, choosing the angles, the frames. You’re the gaffer too, master of light. He wished old Lorne Trumley would replace the ancient wire gate and install a cattle guard at the entrance to his place. It was unlikely, though. Lorne was in his eighties, and like a lot of longtime local ranchers, he only fixed things for good after they'd been repaired so many times there was nothing left of them. And the three-strand gate still worked, sort of.
