About this deal

My only disappointment was this was a very fast read – it’s a smaller format book and Karl’s tales of unintentional woe (like telling the police about a crime, going to bed, and then being woken by the police) addictive. It’s interesting that Karl states he will never, ever go to Australia (not for any original reason – just the bugs, spiders, snakes) but then he did for An Idiot Abroad.

Dorset neighbourhood sees average house asking price rise by one of the highest in UK". uk.movies.yahoo.com. 6 January 2023 . Retrieved 21 January 2023. On 23 November 2010, while appearing live on Richard Bacon's Radio 5 Live afternoon show, Gervais surprised Pilkington with an on-air phone call. This led to a conversation in which Pilkington, who claimed to have been interrupted while grouting his kitchen, claimed that he had not yet been paid for his work on An Idiot Abroad and concluded the interview with an improvised link into the hourly news. [11] The problem is, these days you have to listen to too many parts of your body. Sometimes I go with my gut feeling, some say go with what your heart says - it's only a matter of time before my appendix will have an opinion. This is probably why there are so many helplines these days. No one knows who to bloody listen to!”I look at Australia like Ikea. People always say how good it is, but I can't be bothered going as it's in the middle of nowhere and hard to get to." They do it in Thai restaurants in London. You ask for a drink, and it comes in a glass with loads of seaweed and pebbles in it like a scene from Finding Nemo.” It's weird how me and that insect are miles apart in terms of lifestyle, yet we both like a biscuit."

It's genius questions, that you can't really answer. You'd expect a child to ask them, but Karl has a endearing quality because he sounds simple, and doesn't really quite get things. He's happy in his own little world. People keep going on about global warming, asking us to turn the heating down cos the ice is melting and polar bears are drowning, but no one cares. They should tell everyone that angry spiders from Australia are moving over here cos of the heat, and then we'd soon turn off one of the bars on the fire. Pilkington has worked independently of Gervais and Merchant on several projects. He appeared as a guest on the shows Flipside TV and The Culture Show, [12] and appeared in several short films as part of the Channel 4 project 3 Minute Wonders. [ citation needed]Pilkington resides in Sandbanks, Dorset. [28] He is in a long-term cohabiting relationship with his partner, Suzanne, whom he frequently mentions in his work. [29] [30] Merchant and Gervais have repeatedly denied claims that Pilkington's persona is their creation. In an on-air response to similar claims made by Chris Campling during a broadcast on Xfm, Merchant stated that he would be "ashamed" if the radio show had been scripted, adding that "I would not have squandered a character that good on this poxy radio station." [13] Gervais concurred, pointing out that writing a single series's worth of six half-hour episodes of shows such as The Office and Extras consumed as long as a full year of their time. An interviewer for The Daily Telegraph concluded that Pilkington's behaviour is genuine. [14] Television and DVD [ edit ]

His ponderings range from "my eyes get heavy when I'm tired, so can blind people stay awake longer?" to "I hate jellyfish - I hear they're 98% water - why can't we just give them another 2% and have done with them?". There are some comedians who are just not funny off stage. They hate people spotting them when out and about because they know they'll never live up to expectations. They can 'do' funny but they AREN'T funny - not in real life. Then there are those who can make anything funny, even the lamest joke - Tommy Cooper was one of the best examples. Karl Pilkington is another: he simply IS funny...and he's not even a comedian. This book is typical Karl Pilkington - nothing ever impresses him and misfortune seems to follow him. Most of his holidays and anecdotes have been discussed before inthe past on the poadcasts/XFM before , but it's great to see them again in a newly written form from the man himself in his own words.
