September is too early as the grubs have probably not even hatched yet, let alone started feeding. I would leave it until much later on in the year.Thank goodness for your blog as I just identified a big infestation in our beautiful and newly laid turf from summer last year. Really disheartening. Be vigilant all winter. Keeping an eye on your lawn through the dark winter months is important. A professional winter treatment will spot problems before they turn serious. You can then take steps to control their numbers. It is very important to irrigate immediately after application, water the grass well so the nematodes are washed below the thatch layer into the soil to reach the roots where the larvae will be feeding. To calculate your area measure the width and length of the area to be treated and multiply them by each other e.g. 5m x 20m = 100 sq.m

Pay particular attention to any areas of turf which appear stressed or thinning, particularly around the edges in shady areas, next to a fence or wall etc. If your lawn has been affected, you will notice that the root structure will be very weak so the grass may lift away easily from the lawn Environmentally friendly and safe for children, pets and wildlife. No need to exclude children and pets from treated areas.Soil temperatures should be above 10℃ for the nematodes to be active, if applying in the spring. How Do I Apply The Nematodes? Loosen and prepare the top layer of soil. Prepare it to a fine tilthe and remove any debris for best chance of success.

During the spring window the larvae will have grown to a stage where effective control of any type is significantly reduced. As a result it is important to note that the required application rate is higher for the spring window compared to the late summer into autumn window. Great service from a very professional and knowledgeable company. Everything I have bought nematodes, spring and autumn organic fertiliser, root success mycorrhizal fungi have worked with great success ,cannot recommend Green Gardener more highly. So, if your lawn has been devastated this winter, don’t despair. Remember R.R.P … Reduce, Repair, Prevent. Follow these steps and you’ll have a great lawn this summer. If you have any success with any of these controls, or have any other ideas or suggestions in keeping their numbers down, I would love to hear about it. Get in touch or ask a question.

It’s not worth trying to get the remaining pests out now (June) as they will soon pupate and leave the lawn. Let their life cycle complete and then look at controlling numbers for next year.I don’t recommend using household pesticides in the garden which are not labelled for use outside as they could do much more harm to other creatures and plants. Just continue the squishing, or maybe collect them up and feed them to the birds. They would love tasty grubs for breakfast! Biological controls are living organisms, as a result the exact timing of availability and application may differ according to local environmental conditions.
