About this deal

As a sustainability professional, I look for companies that are eliminating toxic chemicals in the products I buy and sourcing materials in a way that enhances nature. Transitioning to barefoot shoes might require some time for your feet and muscles to adjust. Here are some steps to make the process more comfortable:

ToeToe (UK) – This is the only brand I haven’t tried personally, but they look great and I’ve heard good things. I walked 30 miles in the Prio XeroShoes and 22 miles in the Z-Trail XeroShoe sandals in just 4 days. All over Boston, NYC, and Walden Woods. These shoes and sandals never let me down. My feet were happy and I felt great. These have become my absolute favorite shoes! Certainly not. And not all barefoot shoes look like foot-gloves either, although that style of shoe features on this list. Anyone can benefit from wearing barefoot shoes, and there are many styles geared towards city living as well as outdoor fitness pursuits. How does the sizing work for barefoot shoes? The Xero 360 has adjustable midfoot and instep straps to give you a personalised fit and hold you securely in place.Foot conditions: Individuals with flat feet or other foot-related issues may find switching to barefoot shoes unsuitable. Mukishoes– These are unisex intended for sizes 37-43. I am a 37 and they are quite roomy, but I love them for around the house. Manitobah -This indigenous owned brand makes slippers with a good square toe box shape. Best for high volume feet. Am I saying you’re absolutely going to strengthen your feet? No, we don’t have some specific bit of science that goes along with that, but think about it logically. Traditional shoes do not let your foot bend. It’s like being in a cast. Minimalist sandals let your foot do whatever it wants because there’s nothing getting in the way. Which do you think might let your foot work more naturally, especially if you’re doing things that require foot strength? That’s all I’m going to say about that.

To the left is a Tarahumara huarache. This is their running shoe. It is a sandal made out of a piece of used tire, some leather glued onto that, and a leather strap that you wrap around your ankle. That’s it – protection and something that holds that protection on your foot, little bit of comfort with the leather on the top. It’s all they need. I’m going to agree in another way too. The shoes that are sold and advertised to be barefoot, don’t provide the barefoot feeling and performance. In fact, there was a study that came out looking at people who were running in minimalist shoes versus people running in shoes versus people running barefoot. It showed that the people who were running in the minimalist barefoot-style shoes did not really change their form compared to how they ran in shoes, whereas people who were running really barefoot did change their form. Even toe shoes, the FiveFingers shoes from Vibram, people running in those, many of them did not change their form either because here is this fundamental problem with most barefoot shoes – they’re not barefoot enough. They still have enough padding and control that they don’t let your foot move naturally and they protect you too much from the things that you want to feel. You can find leg warmers lots of places, and they’re really easy to knit yourself (or so I’ve been told), but here are a few that I have experience with and can vouch for! Barefoot shoes are really versatile and suitable for all sorts of activities. Each barefoot shoe differs and may have incorporated technology and features to make them specialised for an activity, but in general you can wear barefoot shoes for: The Bare XF V3 has been designed for natural movement. It is a zero-drop shoe with a wide toe box, so your feet can adapt to any surface. The aim here is to stimulate correct posture and form to make sure no energy is lost through your movements.

Despite that ambiguity, the truth is, we’ve come to be admirers of this interesting product. For those who dislike the constraints of footwear and find personal benefits in barefoot running or walking, these could perhaps be perfect, as Outdoors Magic’s editor found out… Tester’s Verdict
