Places like the National Trust have said they’ll keep their gardens open free of charge while the crisis is ongoing and places like Dartmoor and the Yorkshire Moors are always open so there’s no excuse not to get out and about. As long as you keep yourself at a safe distance from other people it’s ok to leave the house and get out in nature. At the very least get the children into the garden every now and then (the weather should start improving soon!). If done outside, kids can get some fresh air while practicing art and literacy. You can play on one day, over a matter of months or give yourself a time limit of 2 weeks to find them all. See who has found the most by the end. It totally depends on whether you have your own garden or are planning a few day trips out to a nearby woodland etc. This will lead to very intense games! To win, a player must mark off every single image on their bingo card. If you ever spotted the remains of an exoskeleton left behind from a dragonfly nymph molting into an adult dragonfly, then you have seen the empty shell. Helpful hint: to create smaller ants, print off two ant printables on one sheet of paper. Attach the ants with glue for a permanent creation. Our nature bingo will teach kids to appreciate the environment and subtleties hidden in nature, including different plants and animals. Nature bingo will encourage them to be curious and carefully observe their surroundings.

Record data in a nature journal. As they find more of the same type, they can add tally marks next to the insect name. All you need are some printable insect bingo cards and a few pieces of candy or small toys to use as markers. When the game is being played by children let them know they can win a prize or get a treat for finding the four corners and finding lines. Plan the biggest treat for a full house.
